George2615 - thanks for the tip about the jack stands. I'll definitely do that from now on.

And thanks to everyone else that posted, I guess I just need to take it for a test drive once I've go the right hitch and my trailer tagged and everything.

Thank you for bring up the subject.
I am thinking about getting a truck and a trailer .
Have never owned loaded or driven such a rig.
I'm sure I will need lots of loading pointers if I get one.

I would turn the yanmar around nose front drop the 3 point down and back the skidsteer up to the rear of the yanmar.
That will give you the tongue weight you need to keep the trailer from swaying.

I have the same thought as Rick, you don't want that tongue light, you should not be able to lift the trailer tongue by hand at all. The truck should squat some, you definately don't want that trailer pushing the rear of the truck light. Definately a recipe for sway and that is scary stuff with any significant weight behind you as I've been there. Be sure the test the trailer brake battery and switch.

I use a weight distribution hitch.

It is a Equalizer-4-point-swaycontrol, it has two solid 1 1/2in. square
tubes.
tongue weight is-1200lb.-----max weight is-12000lb.

The problem with turning the Yanmar around is that the weight box can't go over the front of the trailer deck - the jack is in the middle, its one of the heavy-duty type jacks. It doesn't fold or anything. Thats why I can't hang the box blade over there either.

On another forum everyone seemed to think the Bobcat should be on the front, and the Yanmar in the rear. This seems like too much tounge weight to me...

I would give it a try. Remember you are driving a 1 ton truck, not a toy. I always note where the rear bumper of the truck is on my leg then load. I want to see the truck squat 2-3". The guys are right, you should not be able to move that tongue. You need 10% of your weight on it, or in your case about 800#. No need for WD hitch, you have the opposite problem.

I would try putting the Bobcat with the bucket all the way up front and the Yanmar on back with the box blade toward the rear. You need tongue weight to load the rear axle on the truck for safety.

Looks to be the best option to me. If you put the BobCat all the way forward and the tractor on the rear I feel it will be too much tongue weight. I think you have it as good as you are going to get it.

By the way I always leave the jack stands 2" shy of the trailer for the reason you pointed out.

Chris
With his dually truck he should be able to put the BobCat up front.
If there is too much tongue weight then he needs a weight distribution hitch.

*CORRECT* ~If you don't have some tongue weight then you will get
some trailer swaying.

He has the right truck.

A Equalizer-4 point- swaycontrol weight distribution hitch would help.

With a 4730lb. BobCat on the back of the trailer it will sway all over the road.
A dually truck should not squat that much at all with the BobCat up front, if it does then he needs a WD Hitch.

If he is going to haul both at a time and can't get the weight distributed correct with a 16ft. trailer, then he needs a longer trailer.

(no way he can haul with all the weight on the back, and little weight on the front and try to keep it from swaying)

I'll second the vote for the weight distribution hitch and I also like sway control. I wish I had added those to my trailer ages ago.

I've driven with poorly loaded trailers too many times now. Use all the protective measures you can. The weight distribution hitch really seemed to make the most difference as far as drivability goes.
