Need hydraulic pump information for log splitter

Planning to build a log splitter. The parts that I have are a new Prince 4 x 24 cylinder, old splitter with 6 inch I-beam mounted on a trailer, a vertical shaft 8 HP with electric start, a horizontal shaft 8HP no electric start. The big question for me is the hydraulic pump by the part # 368895R91 it痴 an oil Aux pump for a 240 Farmall tractor. Not sure if I can mount the pump vertical or not. Can anybody help with the pump, I sure would like to use the vertical shaft motor? Thanks

I would suggest going to "Surplus Center" or similar and get a pump matched up to your engine, (HP and RPM) get a bolt on mount and a love joy coupling

I can find a place selling that unit but I do not see any spec. on it,

and depending on the shaft and speed it may cost as much or more than just buying one that is matched up to your needs,

and I would suggest the two stage pump low pressure needs higer volume, faster, and then when load hits it goes to high pressure, lower volume, ( I think mine is set for about 600 psi to go to the high pressure mode) so ram travel is fast to retract and to get to the wood before splitting, I would also suggest the log splitter valve, it detents in retract leaving hands free to get more wood to split,

I don't see any problem with running the pump with the vertical shaft engine.

I agree with BHD's post, better to match the components properly.
