need opinions on a 955 4X4 w/loader

Like Jason and kennyd said, don't worry about the difficulty disengaging FWD. My 755 has been like that since new, about 17 years and 950 hours. I just stop, back up a foot or three, and it'll disengage quite easily.

Don't want to force that lever- my son busted the manual transfer case shift lever on my F-250 because he didn't know to unbind it when trying to come out of 4 wheel low.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if tractors did the same as vehicles with the different rpm from front to back. I have a 1990 toyota pickup that also has to be unbound when done using the 4WD.
You guys are a great help.
I'm kinda getting cold feet on this purchase though. It seems like a really nice tractor, but I'm not used to spending so much on an implement for yard use.
I hope it lasts a long time without too many issues.

Yep they do, the front "pull" a little more than the rear. And it's also critical to put correctly matched tire sets on because of the different ratio's front-to-rear.

Well, I took the jump, I had to sell my X485 (Prerequisite from the wife) and then promptly took that money and a bit more, and got my new baby!!!. Wow, I'm pretty impressed so far. I had a new friend of mine come with me (He works at the local Deere dealer) and he gave it two thumbs up.
So I got the tractor, 70A loader, 60" belly mower, 60" box blade, 12" auger for 8900.00 Cash.
I feel good about the purchase. I will post pics soon. After I wax it.

I assure you that you will not regret it ! The 955 has one of the best power to weight ratios of any compact tractor, and the "55" series tractors have a great reputation. I've always wanted a 955 and feel they are one of the sexiest tractors ever created by man. If its in decent condition, you stole it at that price !

Congrats!! +1 on everything everyone's said so far. You definitely got a good deal. They don't last long, when they DO show up on trades (nobody wants to get rid of 'em!!), or as a private sale.

The 955 was one of Deere's best efforts. Doesn't have all the modern pushbutton conveniences, but I figure that's one less thing to break while I'm working it!!

BTW - My J-D guy didn't have a problem getting the proper wheels when I switched from turfs to industrial tires. Weren't cheap, tho... Unless you're just using it for farm duty, the turfs will work well for just about everything. I stuck the industrials on mine because I was clearing a bunch of rocky ground with stumps and saplings and such. They're definitely rougher on the lawn than turfs.
