I got my TC40DA used a few months ago. The pto safety switch has been shorted/bypassed, and is just dangling. Found that out crawling around underneath greasing zerks.

Can someone post a picture of the switch in it's proper place and position?

I would just leave it; I do not like "Mr Safety". But, my soon to be 16 year old son drives the tractor too. I need him to mow at my parents next week. He is very responsible on the tractor. But, for him, I would like ALL the safety devices to be operational.

He used my old Kubota for the last three years(supervised). But, I never let him run the rotary mower/PTO.

Now, I need him to run the mower. He'll still be supervised, but I want to hook that switch back up.

Thanks!

Are you sure it is the PTO safety switch? Can you start the tractor with the PTO lever in the engaged position? This is the best picture I could find in my manual for a TC40D.

Here are pictures of the switch, and maybe where it came from. This is looking up, near the inside front of the left rear tire.

I did not try starting it with the PTO in the engaged position; will be back out there in a little bit and try it.

Are you sure it is the PTO safety switch?

Yes, it will start with the PTO lever engaged. Exactly what I do not want for when my son operates it.

I am not 100% sure since I am not at my tractor so I can visually confirm, but I believe the switch goes into this holder. You should test the switch - it is a single pole switch that is open when the plunger is out, and closed when the plunger is pushed in when contacted by the hex head in the small black square outlined in the picture.

Robert, I was about to give up on finding a better illustration or picture of the PTO switch and lever mechanism that Chris posted when I stumbled onto the attached drawing of the levers and how they all mount. In the attached diagram, item 12 is the pto switch and it mounts into item 11, a bracket on the side of the rear transmission housing. Item 10 is a rotating shaft that mounts through a hole in the PTO switch mounting plate and the opposite end attaches to the PTO lever. It has a finger that sticks out with an adjustable bolt (items 7/33) that is adjusted so the PTO light comes on when the lever is moved to the engage position. By following all the assembly lines, you should be able to see just how and where the switch mounts. If you remove your left-rear tire, the job of reinstalling the switch should be a snap. I don't have a picture, but this should help.

I will try and reinstall the switch tomorrow eve; we have a Troop meeting tonight.

Maybe this will fix my light on the dash; I have no indication of PTO engaged, or PTO rpm. The manual I got says there hould be a mark on the tach, like my old Kubota had. I get the feeling this one should have an indicator light or something?

I think I have glowplug relay and/or timer issues too...

Robert, you should have a green "540" light and a red "600" light in the lower right quadrant of your instrument panel. Also, you can just depress the switch and see if the amber PTO symbol lights up on the left side of your dash. With the switch pressed, you should also not be able to start the tractor.

I am starting to think the manual my tractor guy got me, is for a TC40DA, but maybe an earlier version. Some of the switches on the dash, and lights in the dash panel, do not match with the manual. Guessing maybe I got a early manual for a later tractor.

I think I need to send Messicks my serial number and see if they can identify the proper yer of the tractor, and the correct manual number.

Did they get you a manual for the TC40A? My tach definitely does not have any markings for 540 rpm, but I can't be sure what yours is without looking. What year did you say it was? 2005? Hmm....

Looking at the pictures you attached, it would appear that there is a Scotch-Lock used to jumper the two wires on the switch. If you remove the jumper, the switch should again prevent starting until you reinstall the switch back to the proper location. You will also need to repair the damage the jumper has caused to the wires.

The manual says it is for a TC40DA. I'll have to look at the specifics when I get home. I saw a date on the manual. And, I'll get the serial number off the tractor. I'll have to pass the number by Messicks from here on TBN, or call Dolk Tractor(they are in Rio Vista, about an hour and 20 minutes from me).

I'll take a picture of the dash too, just to get a reference.

The dealer the tractor originally came from has changed from mulitple line to just Kubota. They are only 35 minutes from me

I wrote wrong in previous message; I think the manual I got is a for an older TC40DA. But, I'm new to NH, so not sure about that, as is obvious by my questions :D I could tell you about anything you want to know about a Kubota B8200 though... After 11 years, I knew it inside and out.

Yes. Probably have to cut and splice solder, then heat shrink. ScotchlLock are bad about that...

My dash :D

I got the serial number and the Unit number. Any idea what the unit number means? Will make some calls/emails tomorrow.

The manual, says 2003, 11/03.

No matter what the manual says, your dash is just like mine; I checked photos I have of my dash. In my last post I mentioned that the PTO ON light was on the left, but it is obviously on the right (the larger light to the right of the parking brake light) and the small one is for a mid-PTO, I believe. The 540 and 600 lights are directly to the left of the mid-PTO light. If you squint, you can just make them out on the panel even without being lighted. It's too bad we don't have a "press-to-test" button to light up all the lamps in the dash panel.

EDIT: Scan of my Op Man'l page for the dash. My manual is dated 1999.

Oh yes...unit#0B13D = Manufactured on Feb. 13, 2000 on the Day shift.

I just talked to the original dealer. They sold it new in 2002. They still had records on it.

It is older than I thought. Shoulda researched more before buying. Oh well, we still really like it, and it has really low hours.

So, now I wonder, should I just use the 2003 manual, or is it worth it to get an earlier manual?

Also, would that make it a plain TC40D, or is it really a TC40DA? It has Supersteer, tilt/telescope steering wheel, full adjustable deluxe seat, telescoping 3pt arms.

It is a "plain" TC40D. All the "DA" models have a different hood and ugly headlights. If your hood has a vent on top and normal (tasteful) headlights, then it is a "D" model.

I know I'm probably not making too many friends with my headlight comments, but normally I'm a nice fellow and PC and such. I just can't do that for those ugly headlights.:p

Well, I like the plain hood and lights. Besides, the lights are LOTS better than the 10w jobbers on my old Kubota :D My mini-Maglite with weak batteries is brighter than those headlights

So from your expierience, think I should get the earlier manual?
