Need to change to super UDT at 50 Hrs??

I ended up getting a strap wrench from Sears for use on the filters. It is adjustable for any size and provides some good leverage against the filters that are painted on.
Remember to have a good sized container(s) for the fluids!

I usually take a medimum size phillips screwdriver and a hammer and poke a hole in the lowest part of the filter and let it drain. Then I take the screwdriver and hammer it through the filter and use it as a lever to unscrew the filter. The problem is that won't work for the low pressure hydraulic filter as the oil level is higher than the filter so it will drain a looooooong time. Use the old strap wrench on it like stated in the previous post. Murrays auto parts has them cheaper that Sears and Grabbuck.

I have a L3010HST, doing the 50hr. check myself cost $200.
just for the tranny. I agree with most owners on the chat. My
feeling is that the first service is the MOST!! important.
All things mechanical especially tractors, must wear in. When
metal things wear in, small metal particles, even filings, move
around in this case via the hyd-fluid. Most of these filings are
trapped in the filters, some are not. Also on my tractor,a small
filter screen in the suction line must be cleaned at this time.
To clean this screen, the fluid must be drained. To sum up,
although expensive, the 50hr. should be done as the mfg. says.

botaman2, as the original poster of this thread (aka strongbow, aka poster) I have been completely convinced of your advice. My only dilemma is why the dealer would recommend otherwise. Seems to me it would not be in their best interest to not perpetuate potential problems. In any event I have decided to do mine in stages. Changed the oil and filter (Rotella 5-40w) and air filters. I am getting prepared to change the hydralic to Chevron THF in the next few days. I have company all summer (everyone likes Alaska in summer) and have not gotten to it yet. Still only have 52 hrs so I should be ok.
