Pics?
Did you have a thread here on it?
Did you rent or buy the lift?
thanks.

I also put up metal with a drywall lift. My building is 48 feet long and I ordered the metal 12 ft 4 inches long which gave me plenty of overlap (trusses on 4 foot centers). I went with about 12 feet because I was working alone and have a 12 foot ceiling. Anything longer would have been difficult to handle. I couldn't find a high lift to borrow (a standard lift will not go up to 12 feet) so I bought a new one on Ebay for less than $200. I'm going to sell it one of these days when I get around to it. (Renting would have quickly cost more than buying because I'm slow.) I also have two sets of used bakers scaffold. These are almost essential because you don't want to have to work off ladders all the time. You may be able to see in the picture that I added a vapor barrier and then I blew in cellulose insulation. The area above the ceiling is well vented with a continuous ridge vent and a couple of wall vents in the end walls above the ceiling. I put in the wiring above the ceiling and cut electrical boxes into the ceiling metal. That was a mistake. As M E Cook said, putting the boxes on the surface (and running surface mount conduit) would have been a better idea.

yea the lift was not tall enough my shop is 36' long I bought 19' panels trusses on 3' centers and made a frame out of lumber to sit oh lift . I had to use a ladder I was by myself to made it slower but well worth the effort did the ceiling in about 10 hours20881837_270158010168090_4449225099812454887_n.jpg

I have a living area in half of a 30x50 metal building. Spray foam on the complete inside of the building. I have 12" laminated beams, with batt insulation to cover the living area. I can not hear rain at all inside except for the heaviest of storms. Still inside the shop portion it can get quite loud even in a light rain.

Every interior wall is insulated as well and that really helps with sound.

I would not think the metal roof would be much of a noise issue with a home with adequate attic insulation.

If you put bats of fiberglass insulation between your rafters, but sure to do something about the moisture that will form under the metal. You do not want the insulation trapping or holding moisture. Black mold will love it!!!!
I have plywood (OSB)under my metal roof and never had any moisture issues before or after I installed the fiberglass bat insulation. I don't know how well it would work for metal roof attached indirectly to the rafters which sounds like what the OP might have if he has 72 db from rainfall.

I once dismantled a tin roof that had been laid over OSB that was a mere 8 years old.
Due to moisture or condensation the tin was completely rotted out.
You need air circulation under a metal roof as the metal sweats from moist air.

I had a shed with tin roof and come spring with warmer air and cold snow piled on the roof it literally rained inside (and that was not leaks).

Perhaps in a worm southern climate this might not be a problem but sure is 'up north'.

Well I don't have "worm" southern climate but it does get mighty hot. My roof is painted sheet metal and has been up over 10 years with no issue. I have never seen any condensate issues with it. The main section (30x30) has an attic which has bat insulation above the ceiling but nothing but OSB under the roof, it still looks new inside. The rest is lean-to construction We get very little snow here and it usually melts quickly. I don't heat or cool the shop other than what mother nature furnishes so both sides of the roof are usually about the same temps which may negate the condensate issues that you found.

What about installing SIPs under the roof to the ceiling. Insulation and soundproofing in one product. Just Sayin'.

one of the times i enjoy is hanging out in the barn with metal roof and hearing it rain. barn doors open and watching it fall off the roof.

Me too. I have a carport with a metal roof attached to my farmhouse. I enjoy sitting under the carport while listening to and watching the rain.
