need to soundproof my shops metal roof

I have 12 foot ceilings and used 1/4 inch wafer board and nothing else it cut the sound a lot. IF you have nothing up there think about any thing would help but insulation probably will help the most.

I do like the idea of the metal for ceiling. You should be able to overlap it easy to fit the length without having to cut it to an exact length. Nothing else would do that I know of, well fiberglass panels would do the same.

I suspect the OP was referring to metal roofing on the exterior.

That said have installed some old decorative tin ceilings on one remodel job. Came out great and had an interesting look to it. This tin was removed from an old store built about 1930's as I was told. Not many new ideas out there in construction.

Look at post number 3 for where my comments come from. Think it will make sense on the metal ceiling.

one of the times i enjoy is hanging out in the barn with metal roof and hearing it rain. barn doors open and watching it fall off the roof.

Nap time for me! Rain on a tin roof will put me asleep in a heartbeat.

I once dismantled a tin roof that had been laid over OSB that was a mere 8 years old.
Due to moisture or condensation the tin was completely rotted out.
You need air circulation under a metal roof as the metal sweats from moist air.

I had a shed with tin roof and come spring with warmer air and cold snow piled on the roof it literally rained inside (and that was not leaks).

Perhaps in a worm southern climate this might not be a problem but sure is 'up north'.

Actually in my shop before I replaced the roof it would rain frequently inside, warm moisture laden air condenses on the ceiling, rain results. That's why I had an inch of insulation installed with the new roof. Didn't need snow.

like I said in my previous post I used metal roofing for the ceiling I used a sheetrock lift to get up in place and ordered my metall a foot longer so I had a good overlap so had adjustment room then put my boxes for lights on the surface of the ceiling came out real clean looking install

I am about 20 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, maybe 23. I am about 20 miles west of Myrtle Beach SC. At certain times of the year condensation is as has been about like a light rain on the underside of my metal roof. But that was only on my open sheds with dirt floor the best I remember. Then think it was worst on the west side and not as big an issue on the south or east sides. No shed roof on the northern side.

M E Cook I do like the idea of the metal ceiling as you have described. Also like the sheet rock lift.
