What is your top end speed?

I have the older Kubota 500 and the new updated Kubota 520, the 520 is much improved over the 500 with a power boost and it's much nicer to run.

Both go about 25 MPH but the 520 gets there much faster and holds its speed much better on hills.

Hello all,

So, I really could use a utility side by side for around my 8 acres. Mainly for fence repair, general maintenance, irrigation repairs and target setting out to my 200 yard range. And of course some trail riding while camping. I am looking at five different machines. Most are three seaters. No need for a six seater. Here they are not listed in any particular order;

1 CFMoto UForce U10 Pro
2 Kawasaki Ridge/Ranch Edition
3 Polaris Range 1000
4 Honda Pioneer 1000-5
5 Can Am Defender X MR

I know there are others on the market. I was really interested in a Massimo T-Boss 1000, but they are not available in Kalifornia. My main focus here is ease of service, riding comfort and durability. So, if you happen to have one of these machines, can you kindly chime in as to what you do and don't like about it. I have ridden in a Honda Pioneer before and it was a great machine. I kicked the tires on a Kawasaki Ridge and it looks like a great machine, but getting to the air filter looks like a pain in the rear. I have yet to sit in any of the other three. Mainly because there are none on dealer floors in the Stockton area. I really want to look at the CFMoto. A Tracy dealer is expecting some in early May.

A friend has 2 Kubota unitscon his property for work use. They are not the fast fun type of side by side but the working type. Fence repairs etc

I’ve got a Kubota RTV520. It’s not as big as others so can get in tighter places. It’s not a speed demon but I pull a 5x10 trailer all the time. I put a cargo carrier on the front trailer receiver so I can carry tools and stuff on the front or back. It’s a workhorse, I love it.

Make sure and get one with power Steering. I have a Polaris Ranger 900xp. I have had several Polaris's. I bought and sold used ones. That would be my choice. Be careful of the Chinese ones because of parts availability. Hondas tend to be more expensive for parts but I think they make a good machine. I don't know how hard they are to work on. If your property is hilly you may want to put a brake line lock on it because parking on a incline is hard to get out of park because the incline puts a bind on the transmission.

No need to add a brake line lock on a Can-am Defender. Standard feature - push down hard on the brakes, pull up on the lock and the machine ain't going anywhere. Works on all four wheels, not just two like some "Parking Brakes".

One of the reasons I chose a Can-am was that it had both a brake lock built in, plus a "Park" feature on the transmission. When I was shopping for side by sides I was surprised at how many of the different models had only one or the other. My riding buddy's Yamaha Wolverine, for instance, has no "Park" position on the transmission, only a parking brake handle to pull. Same with the Yamaha Rhino in our Search and Rescue unit.

For some UTVs, operating in hilly terrain can take some getting used to: as you let off the gas you get engine braking only down to a point, then the clutch on the CVT transmission "lets go" and you have no engine braking. You have to keep the engine RPMs up slightly to keep the clutch engaged. Yes, you can always just step on the brakes instead, but to me this is just counter-intuitive: step on the gas to go slower?

As far as I know, this "freewheeling" feature is only on Polaris side by sides. Both of the Polaris units in our SAR unit are this way. And I detest it...as you say - totally counter-intuitive to step on the gas to make the clutch engage for engine braking! Every other brand of side by side I've been around has the clutch setup to provide engine braking. Polaris does offer the clutch that would give engine braking as an option:

Heard great things about the CFMoto, and it's arguably the best value of that group
I have only met three people who had various CFMoto machines and none of them were happy with them. Two traded them in on other machines (one a Polaris General and one a Can Am Defender), and the other hasn't, only because it's not in the budget for anything better.

As said on this forum many times, buy once, cry once.

This does it for me: fencing, C&S pickup, running the dogs, sprayer, mail retrieval, Year-round operation. 48V Lithium, software limited to 20 mph (measured), high low beams, horn, 4whl brakes, trailer hitch. Auto park keeps the dogs from hitting the pedals when it's time for a r i d e . Easily handles 14 square bales, even on hills.

What is this (make/model)? And what did you pay for it if you don't mind sharing? Looks very useful!

It was provided free as part of my AT&T Uverse package to maintain the access point if power went down. this meas that my battery laptop can still get internet service for finding out how large the Outage map is and when can I expect serve to be restored.

I believe its a Belkin brand and I often find then at garage sales. The batteries don't last forever, even while on their own maintainer, but new batteries can be had from a battery store or Amazon, etc keep me operational.
