Good ohh-- enjoy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do not sleep in the seat for the first night. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Consider a single tooth fastened to the center of the bucket. Very good for getting under buried roots /rocks etc.

<font color="blue"> Interestingly, I let him talk me out of a toothbar. Something tells me, however, that I'm going to end up wanting one of these at some point. We'll see.

Congratulations!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif By the way...

For me the toothbar is so useful I had to grab my right hand with the left to stop it from clicking /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

You're going to love that tractor... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

GMB,
Here in Maine I have very similar winter driveway concerns. I believe mine may be even steeper, but not as winding or long. When I was shopping for a tractor last spring (I ended up with a B7800), I was very interested in more aggressive tires and/or chains for snowblowing (front-mount). The salesman recommended that I didn't commit to tires, calcium fill, or chains until I had actually tried out the 4WD. Of course, such a strategy could leave you stranded if the gamble doesn't pay off.

Fortunately for me, I experienced no difficulties whatsoever with just turf tires, and a salt-spreader on the 3-point hitch for weight. I could start, stop, reverse direction at even the worst parts of the hill. When engaged, the snowblower seemed to pull me through the drifts, I hardly had to give it any "gas." However, it was an odd winter with just the two major snowstorms in December, followed by rain and then bitter cold, so my experiences may be different this winter.

But at this point (especially when I'm mowing), I certainly appreciate that salesman's advice.

....but after we had talked about weight concerns for mowing, he offered to throw in a weight box in place of filling the tires. This will allow me to have the lightest possible setup for mowing, but easily add rear weight for loader work. I probably could have used the box blade for this purpose, but since he didn't charge me for the weight box...

GMB -

Congrats on making your decision - the B7610 is a great CUT!

I too was worried about soil compaction and went with the weight box instead of filled tires - was going to cost me @ $200 either way.

Honestly, I find the weight box utterly useless - except for it's intended purpose. But it's just a bother putting it on / fussing with the 3PH etc. I wish I'd put that $200 towards something more useful - like a boxblade etc.

I guess if you're getting it for free - then what the heck - maybe the dealer is *just trying to get rid of them*?

Welcome (shortly) to the B7610 club!

Dan

"Interestingly, I let him talk me out of a toothbar. Something tells me, however, that I'm going to end up wanting one of these at some point."

I just extended my driveway 10' the other day (about 70' wide at that end, as I have a rear-load garage). A toothbar would have made the digging a lot easier and quicker. While the rippers on the box work well, they do take multiple passes to get things really loose, and I didn't want to be dragging piles of dirt all over the yard, so working at each end was a bit tight.

I moved the fill to a couple of low parts of the yard. A toothbar would have helped fill the bucket a bit more efficiently, too. The one use where it would have been in the way was when I put the bucket into float and backdragged to level, which worked better in the yard swale than did the box. Maybe someone makes an easy-on, easy-off toothbar.

I think they are all pretty much easy-on, easy off.

Mine is held on with two 1" bolts. Takes more time to get the wrenches than it does to take the tooth bar off or put it on.

I love my toothbar... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ... Wife is still #1 though... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
