I believe it to be the sugar in it but I dont know that for sure. I ended up not going with rimguard in the end because I was able to get RV antifreeze for $.50 a gallon.

I thought "beet juice" was the byproduct from them extracting sugar from sugar beets...

I have heard of windshield washer fluid for .50 cents per gallon, but NEVER RV antifreeze.

RV antifreeze is non toxic and my dog was in my shop the whole time i filled mine and had 0 interest in what was spilled on the floor.
