' Do what I want ' is a broad term ... I live out in the boonies and farm related activities are protected pretty good, but one persons do anything I want is anothers pain in the arse. I don't know anywhere you can ' do as you want '..... There is and has to be use regulations.. or folks would run amok... and others would be sighting in their weapons.

As I said, I know I can't escape all of man's encumbrances. There are lots of homes around here that look like the bad side of pack rat crazy. I plan on keeping my place attractive and as tidy as possible. My objective is to build beauty into land. Just not the same Undisturbed beauty that is here now. There will be some weapons sighted in. Hopefully not on me.

Dmccarty, you may be talking about century farms in NC. That is where I have purchased my trees. He is great to deal with and has a great reputation. As for the cedars , I have seen some used as a hedge line on a property about 1 mile away. I'm sure they are out there. I will have to deal with it when the time comes. There are a lot of orchards inky area so I'm not the only person who has to face this.

Yep that is the place. Lee Calhoun is shown on this report, Resurrecting the lost apples - Videos - CBS News. He is a fascinating man because without many more of the older apples would have disappeared. He has managed to save some of those old apples.

Later,
Dan

I keep mine well dusted off... even made me a nice 50 yard range out back in the woods a couple years ago.... can't see much farther than that anymore. :)

Oh wow. I didn't know about that picture. I showed it to my wife. She thought it was cool. Guess that is my 15 seconds of fame. I will have to forward that on to my dealer.

Very much agree. Land isn't personal property that you can consume or dispose of however you please. You don't really own it you're just stewarding it for the next generation. Many other people "owned it" and walked it for generations before you were born and thankfully left it in a state that you can now use it and enjoy it.

Good point too. Even financially you never really own it. The loan payments stop one day but the tax payments and insurance go on forever.
