Neighbor is Not Happy With Me

Some people just like to be mad at the world...

I let adjoining property owners know before I listed a property for sale... no one was interested when I decided to sell.

One neighbor women has been extremely difficult.. the kind that would call the sheriff if any of the neighbor kids were playing ball and it landed on her property. The home I owned with my brother is a rental and has been long before she became "Our" neighbor.

One day I get an irate call from her... she is so mad that I can barely speak. She tells me the Sheriff is on the way and that I'm going to pay... I finally find out that a moving truck had mistakenly parked at her home and got then got stuck in the mud as she yelled at them when they tried to leave.

I politely told her that it was no concern of mine... she would not take no for an answer and wanted my insurance company's name. I told her, "Why would I give her that information... since we are NOT even neighbors."

We had sold the property and it tunrs out it was moving day for the new owners They had family driving the Uhaul that was stuck with their furniture.

There was total silence on the phone when I told her I not longer owned the property... She did not believe me because she never saw a for sale sign... she then said she would have been interested and was waiting for the sign to go up so her realtor could handle things...

Some people get what they deserve...

Get as close to his property line as you can, preferably with him downwind, and build the biggest pig pen you can. Get 3 or 4 of the fattest sows you can find and let them wallow away. Don't build the pen too sturdy, sows need to stretch their legs now and then.:)

Seriously, though. I planted 2 acres of pine trees in 2002 between where my house was going to be and my neighbors across the road. Almost 6 years later, you can't walk through them hardly, much less see through them. Cedars work also, just grow slower.

And, if the view doesn't bother you. Plant nothing. Do nothing. Just smile and wave as others have stated. (EDIT) Only your imagination can limit your options.:)

He is waaay outta line.
Is he down wind? Get lots of animals. Geese and chickens tend to create a good odor. Pigs are another option. Regardless the manure pile needs to be near his property line.
Guinea hens are very loud and would make a good addition to your property.

The high road isn't nearly as fun as making a point.

I have three great neighbors and two have ignored us for the yr we have been here. One of the ones that has ignored us is diagonal across the road, retired, and thinks he's sixteen. He's got a classic car with load exhaust and leaves the nieghborhood with his foot in the carburetor. In addition, this fall I had to meet one of my nieghbors while tracking down who was tresspassing on my land (and his). Found out it was the nieghbor on the otherside of him. The tresspasser's family originally owned a large tract of land on this side of the road and the hot rodders family owned a large tract on the other side. Now niether one owns more than 4 acres. The rest of us are "intruding" The tresspasser is going to have to figure out how to hunt on 4 acres instead of 65 now (his + mine + nieghbor between). When I got to meet the tresspaser, I was cordial, but he didn't even give me his name after I introduced myself. I didn't pull any punches after that. Tell him to mind his own business and don't worry what he thinks.

BTW... I might be POW POW Marcel

Hi Mike and the Gang...

You should just ignore your selfish neighbor and get on with your own wonderful life. Life is too short to be burdened by another person's dark cloud. It sounds like the guy has a mental problem, anyway! That guy would have been better off making a friend than creating an enemy.

Also, I would not grovel, nor "act nice" trying to be a friend...(taking the high ground). You have a right to be where you are and build where you want. Just ignore and tune that fellow out and enjoy your new place and friends. He had his chance at earning your friendship and lost it. I would stand my ground and stay independant.

You take the high road to avoid future problems so you can "enjoy your new place and friends"

We're going on 4 years now in our farm and I just finally met the last of our neighbors the other day while he was bushhogging his 2 sections to the East of our house. He was very nice despite what I'd heard about him. He's retired and lives in town now on the CRP money he gets off his land.

We got to talking and he asked about my big dirtpile in the back of my place and I explained that I work on military weapons for a living now and I got a 350 yard test range back there. I was telling him how I wish I had 1000 yards but to do that I'll be all the way to the highway and on another neighbors land.
He told me I could go over to a big old mine pit on his place and shoot all I want. We'd ridden horses down in that pit a lot and have had a lot of fun. It's perfect for the big stuff like 50 cals that I work on sometimes. I sure won't have to worry about a ricochet hitting someones cow in there.

I guess I've lucked out with all my neighbors then. 2 of them are retired military like me, one is a couple our age that is very nice and the two behind us each own a race track. One is a pro drag strip and the other a dirt bike track. They make a lot more noise than I do BTW. and now the retired farmer on the other side. We all get along though.

There is a guy across the highway that needs to put a leash on his crop dusters though. 2 years ago they were defoliating their cotton and killed out all of my wheat and a few trees. They also got two of my other neighbors. One of them is a lawyer and I don't think it will happen again. That guy actually had the gall to come over here one day when I was spraying on my tractor and tell me it was illegal to be spraying 24D during cotton growing season. He did this after he killed out all of my crop too. I came real close to getting off my tractor and busting him in the head but I didn't. I just asked him to leave. It's not illegal to spray this stuff either. I'm abut as careful as I can be using it and it's the only thing that will kill broadleaf weeds in wheat and bermuda. These cotton farmers use roundup and that kills nearly everything so they need to be careful too instead of acting like they are the gods of farming.

I'm sorry if my comment has been said, but I haven't read all 64 threads. My answer to the ole geezer would have been, If you didn't want me or anyone else here you should have bought the land then no one would bother your view/country feelings. :)

WTA, did you contact your county ag department and ask them? Around the vineyards it is illegal to spray 2-4d because it affects plants differently then round up. We can spray roundup all day long but you can't spray 2-4d within 2 miles of a vineyard and that is a law here in NY so if you didn't check it you might want to.

I did check on the law and there isn't one here. I checked with the ag extension agent and the USDA office. The only thing they said is that you can be held liable if someone can prove the wind drift from whatever you sprayed damaged their crops. That's common sense though. I use a 20 foot boom sprayer with big nozzles and usually no more than 30 psi to the boom. It goes straight down even in moderate winds. Still I would never do it with the wind blowing any direction other than to my own pastures. Even then only in winds under 5 mph.
Those crop dusters on the other hand come off that cotton field a mile away and don't even shut the spray off till they are past my place and doing the second part of their turn. It's amazing any trees are still living around here. My pecan trees haven't been hit yet thankfully. That's a part of our income and I would have to sue someone over those. When my wheat got killed out I couldn't afford to sue him. I was doing all I could to feed my animals through the winter. That caused a lot of financial trouble for us. Hopefully he has been threatened severely enough now though. My 2 neighbors didn't enjoy having to buy feed all winter either.

Speaking of vinyards. There is one on our side of the highway right across from that cotton farmers field. It's been completely dead since we moved here. I wonder why? It's about a 40 acre vinyard that had a great reputation from what I was told. What a shame.

Did you report the crop duster to the county?

Wonder how you can get your property designated as a "no fly zone"? Be nice to be able to do that. I live between two military bases and do have a few flybys. They usually aren't dropping pesticides, though.
