I had 17 cows come calling a couple summers back. They had come quite a ways through the woods. They seemed interested in heading down the driveway to the road which couldn't be a good thing. I herded them into an area of red clover and got them settled.

We did track down the owner but he was about 2-1/2 hours away at a fair. So, I was the cow herder for a while. Got out a lawn chair and watched them munch. :laughing:

I would have a talk to the neighbor and bring him over and show him what the dog has been leaving behind and ask him to clean it up and if he refuses get in touch with the authorities.

I have had the neighbors horses in the yard in spring when it was wet there hoofs tore up the grass broke bird feeders,they asked to pay for damages told them not to worry about it.its not something that happens often.If it happened weekly we would have a problem.

I just flip it into the bushes next to the road. Not worth a confrontation. If I see it happening I just walk out calmly and ask that it not happen again. That always works, I have had no repeat offenders. I agree that we should not punish or inflict anything on the dogs, they are just being dogs. The owners are always the problem.

I just run them into a spare pasture and make sure they have water. Owners always show up within a few hours. I just hope for a return favor since my fences are so bad my cows are on the honor system.

Around here we have "pooper scooper" companies. (Yes people actually pay for that). If you have already talked to them about it and they are ignoring you, I would call one of these companies and ask the neighbors to pay the bill. They wouldn't necessarily be obligated and you may be out a little bit of money, but it may get the point across.

I'll stick to using fresh manure on my garden, if their house dogs meander into it, not my problem!

Sixty of my neighbours cows broke through the fence late one evening. Contacted the neighbour and agreed it was too dark to get them out that night. He cleared them out first light the next day but not before each and every one of those 60 had come up in the night and thanked me for the extra grass by taking a dump on my front lawn. Had to wear a raincoat when I mowed next.

That's what you get for having such a nice lawn. I don't even water mine, I figured out a long time ago that I grows when I do that.
