Something I've used to go to outbuildings is Ethernet over power line adapters. They work very well as long as you are on the same side of the utility transformer.

Also, there is a difference in ethernet cable, solid riser cable is meant for punch down blocks, stranded meant for crimp connectors.
Also, EZ RJ45 connectors are nice to use, almost can't mess up a crimp with them, just got to use the EZ crimp tool that cuts the end of the wires off. We use these at work with almost no bad crimps.

i have tried the network using electrical wire in my home before, but have had bad luck. granted this was 10 plus years ago... but still.
my issues was "line noise" say a 110v drill, saw, vacuum cleaner, microwave, if something was turned on that gave a bad power noise back on the wiring, the network took a noise dive of not being able to work. some things that help was remove the power strips, computers were plugged into... but that was a tad more of a hassle. monitor, computer, speakers, etc... some locations in house were good vs others.... longer runs between 110v outlet in house to breaker panel, and/or outlet was attached to breaker at very top of breaker box, and the other outlet was attached to breaker at very bottom of box. more line noise was coming in that way. then again at time the wiring in house was 40 plus years old, and was not in the best of shape, but still. it just did not work like wanted.
