Neutering a cat??

I see no issue if the feral cats are fixed.

It can be incredibly difficult to trap a feral cat...and although I have paid to have some fixed, my vet charges about $120 to spay a female. Plus hospitilization and pain management....

In regards to the national organizations, do you know of the percentage of donations to ASPCA that go towards the intended cause?

I believe the ASPCA spends about 10 percent. Their CEO earns over half-a-million per year. The US Humane Society is so bad it just lost its tax free status.

The sad thing here is so many people watch these agonizing commercials and write checks to the national organizations. They probably just helped buy someone a new golf cart. The local shelters get nothing from these national machines.

The real work is being done on the local level. The vast majority of these local shelters are hurting for money, space and volunteers.

Just today, I watched as a beautiful lab mix was helplessly dodging cars & trucks on a 70mph highway. After pulling over and trying to find a point of safety, my wife and I were able to coax the dog over - just as a semi flew on by without so much as changing lanes. This dog would be dead if we had been unable to catch it. That dog is the newest resident at our rescue. Many animals find their way to our shelter through very similar circumstances. The good news is we saved a precious life. The bad news is - more vet bills, more food bills, more demand on staff, more over-crowding.

If you feed outdoor cats, you're part of the problem.

Something I LOVE about TBN is the members who spout bulls**t usually have the good graces to sit down and shut up after awhile.... EXCUSE ME....have to run down to McDonalds and offer to feed the homeless....  well EXCUSE ME FOR CREATING THE PROBLEM OF THE HOMELESS BY FEEDING THEM !!!! And while I am on the way home, I will pick up 25# of dry cat food for the feral felines I feed....

I live on road 8 miles from the city limits. Always some one is tossing out a cat or dogs. I have developed the idea the wrong group is being neutered to spayed. Think that castration is a good method to keep those tossing animals would be reconsidered either take care of animal or don't purchase one.

Most dogs we get have been injured broken leg or looks like been in a dog fight and lost the battle.

Yet close to 10 years ago pair of chow dogs killed a calf on our property. called the cattle owner and he showed up I described the dogs and he in turn driving around saw the dogs. He had seen them day before skinny shaggy and runty looking. this time gut full and sleeping under cedar tree no collar or ownership looking.
He shot at. injuring the male with bullet crease on top of head. female ran. Now I was arrested for cruelty to animals the other man was also charged and at trial fined $650 lawyer $600 I was fined $250 as assistor to a crime. The prosecutor wanted me to take a anger management class at my expense .
Not one of the legal money grabbers gave a hoot about a pedigreed yearling calf had lost its life.
So the shoot shovel and shut up is used.

Not one of the animals being discussed decided to live homeless depending on some one to feed it.
because not being wanted after growing up play toy.
Whoever takes in a stray is supposed to pay for the cost.
Some where there is wrong thinking of supposed educated people in this world.

Maybe Not Tagged castrate the owner. Would this raise the awareness of ownership of animal.

The county in which we live has a feral cat neutering program for those with a feral cat colony. We have I think 7 cats today in the barn. They come, they go, they live, they die, and from time to time I euthanize one in need of same. They neuter cats for $5 and clip the top of one ear as a marker (for the females I guess) if you tell them you have a feral cat colony. We put kibble out for the pack in the a.m. and they hunt otherwise. We have a relatively rodent free barn. We get hay delivered periodically from a friend and his barn is rotten with rodents. Always nests and a few mice in the delivered hay. The cats line up when they see the truck/wagon entering the barn. Their favorite? Pinkies we toss them we turn up. Lots of horrible crunching. Great fun!

Cat dumping doesn't worry me as much as dog dumping. Once in a while an idiot dumps a German Shepherd or other big dog in the area. The small dumped dogs are eaten by the coyotes. The large dogs are accepted as pack members and breed with the coyotes creating coy dogs, a horrible, aggressive, fearless creature. I shoot one every now and then. They'll even go after horses. I don't report my euthanizing or coy dog shooting to anyone, don't want to happen what is in the post above. What pisses me off is what's the difference between a vet with chemicals and putting a cat that's lost it's rear wheels in a freshly dug hole, shooting it in the head, and covering it up? $50.00! Either way the cat is off to cat paradise, wherever that is.

And using that logic, if you take a homeless person to McDonalds or give them ten bucks for food, you are part of the problem? DUHHHH !!!!!!!

You're not supposed to do that, either. You're supposed to donate money or time to credible agencies that will make sure the money or donated time is spent well, not on liquor or a scam. ;)

Make sure you make the distinction between "The Humane Society of the United States" and your local "Humane Society" in your home county. They are not the same organizations. If you want to donate money, do it to your local agency. ;)

I've never seen anyone on TBN that is happy to see dogs roaming. No one. So why is it acceptable to lets cats roam?

...

What gets me is the tv commercials wanting $19 a month and using the animals to try to prey on your feelings in hopes that you will give, I wonder how much of the $19 even goes to the animals verses administrative costs? I bet not much. Just think though, $19 a month, I wonder how many millionaires/billionaires in this country could afford to give some significant money towards animals care? Look at it this way, say you have $50 billion, will you miss $2 billion if you gave it to animal care? Theres a lot of wrongs going on in this country.

There is a website or two that report what percentage of donations go to the actual cause. Can't remember the names but Google will find them for you. They've been out there for a few years. I would not donate w/o checking first.

Now, recently, I saw a large sign on the highway that said something to the effect of (paraphrase) don't ask about admin costs, ask what good we do. Wow! Sponsored by charity . org or something. Can't imagine the type of guys who started that "non-profit".
