How about this, Man with some money starts a company, buys a lot of land in the middle of nowhere. Builds a large factory, with housing for the workers, pay them a fair wage for the times. Later workers strike and shuts down the plant. Making owner give into their demands. Owner can not believe it, as in a very bad time, he gave them jobs, a place to live and now they strike against him. A long time ago, in Hershey, Pa. Plant is now in Mexico and the product is just so,so.
But in fairness, in the mines and other places, unions did help with safety.
The paper mill in Tuscaloosa, Al. some years ago, needed to upgrade their paper equipment or go out of business. Union went on strike to try to protect jobs. They were told that if the paper company did not get the new equipment, they would be out of business, to make a profit, they had to let people go, as not as many people needed with the new equipment. Union said no. Buy new equipment and keep all of the current people on payroll. Paper mill shut down! No jobs for anyone. Union told everyone that company was making a tons of money, when they were losing money due to older equipment and high wages. Some of those people had worked for the company for over 25 to 30 years, their fathers had worked for the same company. The union pushed too hard, now a lot of people in this area does not trust or like unions.
