Hound, Thanks for that link. It sounds like it covers a few different models. Too bad they don't have one just on my truck with the Duramax and Allison.

What kind of fashion statement are you trying to make with those pants, shorts, or whatever those would be called?

Budgeting and allocation of resources in a prioritization schema often, when applied rigorously, risks the appearance of not giving credence to some area or another but as demonstrated in this instance, his clothing maintained legal requirements and was undoubtedly only one of many small sacrifices that enabled the truck purchase which was clearly for the greater good!

Yep it does cover everything which is fairly handy as it covers all of the body and interior too. The D/A specific sections are pretty good. Overall the manual is a lot more useful than the Chiltons, as it should be considering the cost. IIRC they were about a year behind in producing the hard copy manuals when I bought mine.

You tyin' to say he wears second hand clothes from the Salvation Army so he can afford that beautiful new truck? :)

I would never presume to reveal his clothing source and the Starvation Army usually doesn't have as good a selection as Good Will (not that I would have had personal experience, well not in several months.)

in my experiences over the years using aftermarket manuals for other makes besides gm i have found that they explain things real well, however they are not updated once they have been printed. i know in the GM world a fix this month is a no no next month. back in 2000-2001 for example there was a TSB to replace the main shaft in auto 4x4 transfer cases with a "clunk" noise, after about 6 months they came out with a new fluid that took care of the problem. I would say probably 50% of todays repairs are done with a program update to the power train control module, everything from trans shifting hard to radio concerns. I always sugest to people to make a running list of things they think might be wrong with their truck and the conditions that they happen in, with this in hand make an apointment with the dealer when you can be w/o your truck for a couple days and have these things checked out. GM has done a pretty good job of making units as service free until 100k miles as i think they can but things break and i understand why you want to take care of some matters yourself, its very hard to find a tech who knows a fuel rail pressure regualtor from a fuel rail pressure sensor, or one who knows which to replace when the idle is roaming up and down. There is so much to know about the systems on your truck and how they work together i cant even begin to start, just be careful what you tinker with or you might open a huge can o worms. lol
happy truckin

With tractors, as a rule of thumb you run them for 50 hrs on dopeless break-in oil (no additives) and drive with light engine load, high rpm, low rpm, to get everything seated. then change the oil, warm the engine to operating temperature and then hook on a big cultivator and bury it into teh soil to the frame. That will make sure the piston rings get seated properly and give years of use with little oil consumption.

Particularly Zetors are known to keep using lots of oil if the owner had a light right foot. Dealers used to let them roar on a dynotester, with a tuned fuel pump to fix this problem if they kept using oil after a few months.

When i was at the Scania truck factory in Zwolle, the netherlands a few years ago, the excursion leader showed their test facility where the brand new engines were brought to operating temperature on the test bench for about 15 minutes, then 15 minutes after their virgin combustion stroke, they were punished to the max and lugged down from full rpm to idle, to test them fully.

Try to find a GMC/Chevy '07 "classic" to avoid all exhaust DPF junk. One less thing to pay for & maintain. It's still a brand new truck with all the benefits available from GMC. I bought mine in march when the new '07's were hitting the lots and I didn't like the dash as much, didn't like the DPF, or the higher price. They also have one less gauge in the gauge clustrer, I think.

I would hate having that POS DPF under my truck and all that regeneration crap going on all the time.

What is DPF?

diesel particultate filter. traps almost all the soot from the exhaust. Mandatory on almost all diesel truck egines built after '07.

The dpf looks like a big metal canister in the exhaust system. It acts like a big trap for soot particles. Every so many hundred miles, it goes into a regeneration cycle where diesel fuel is injected into the dpf, then ignited, almost like a small "blast furnace" the soot particles are "burned-off", which cleans the dpf.

I think they stink and make diesel trucks a lot more complex & prone to failure, but it's the best way our world's best & brightest could come up with a way to reduce diesel particulate emissions by 90%.

Yep, nothing cleans like fire. :)
