Split the difference and go for it at 20-30 hours. I did my Kioti at 40 hours, the book called for 50. I'm at 150 hours now and I'm switching to synthetic the book calls for 200.

Read the book carefully. Unless they have changed the first service is at 50 hours and then every 1 year or 200 hours after that. I am a big fan of synthetic oil but I use conventional oil in the tractor because the annual use of 50 to 100 hours doesn't justify synthetic.

Read your manual, it will tell you when to change motor oil & HST oil. The earliest motor oil change I have heard of was on my Kawasaki 691V powered ZTR which required oil change at 8 hours but ONLY the oil, no filter change till 100 hours. MOST tractors require a 50 hour oil change for engine and with HST transmissions, hydraulic /HST oil along with all filters at that time but your OEM owners manual will specify the exact recommendations.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what a salesman says as many (most) of them barely know the color of the equipment they are selling.
Some manuals will even specify the time duration required before switching to full synthetic while others don't mention it. Personally I like to run the full 50 hours on the break-in oil to allow all the components to wear in as they should. Synthetic or regular oil is a personal choice as most of us don't put enough hours per year on a tractor to require synthetic since the recommended oil change is yearly or XXX hours. Cost difference for engine oil is minimal for most CUTs that may only hold 4-5 quarts so at most $10-15 difference.

Thanks for the post makes a lot of sense, when you changed at 40 hours did you go braking in oil again or regular oil ?

Read your manual as everyone has been telling you. All the things you want to know are in there.

Many say there is no such thing as breaking in oil. I have plenty of vehicles and my tractor where I just put in the correct spec oil at the first oil change and worried not. Granted my car only has 392,000 and does not use much oil (less than a quart) between 10,000 mile oil changes, the tractor does not need any oil added between changes, neither does my truck. Heck some car engines factory fill is oil like Mobil 1 full synthetic. Same oil you get at Pep Boys.

I have read mi book and unless I mist it only sais 200 hours.
maybe that is soon enough just sounds like a lot .
A car at 55 miles per hour for 200 hours would travel 11000 miles witch would be a lot for a first oil change in mi book.

I am sure my LS tractor had a non-detergent oil in it as breaking in oil. At 50 hours the oil was still clear as new oil. I put in Shell Rotella T6 and within a few hours the oil was coal black as diesel oil should be. Regardless of what is rumored, just change the oil as per scheduled maintenance in your owners manual.

I also don't believe that BNOEL10 properly read his manual when it said 200 hours before first oil change. Possibly 200 hours AFTER first oil change which most books say to do at 50 hours.
