New 2018 5075E Want to Add 3rd Function

Can someone explain the difference between the two. Like which is needed for grapple vs top and tilt and why? Maybe help others since almost everyone wants to pimp out the tractor.

Here is a nice explanation by Roger in VA.

Yep. And the only limitation of 3rd function is the hyd flow GPM of the tractor. The highe GPM the faster and stronger all 3 functions will work simultaneously.

Add a 3rd SCV which is dedicated to operate whatever 2-way cylinder is connected to it.

Add a diverter valve with a switch (electric or manual) to take whatever control valve output, and send it to whichever 2-way cylinders are plumbed to its outlets. A pair of lines in, and two pair of lines out. i.e. the curl control lever could tilt the bucket or it could be switched to close the grapple fingers.. just not both at the same time.
Point is, can do without adding the 3rd SCV if wanting to forego that option.

Hope that helps explain the difference, at least as I understand it. ;)

Sorry, missed the other two posts responding to the question.

Been researching this and spent some time at my local dealer to include parts, service and JD rep. What I learned was that JD does not have an OEM 3 function (cont. flow) option for the 5 series or smaller tractors. Got to jump up to the 6 series or larger tractors. They did say however it was not due to a pump flow limitation for the 5 series. They just simply don稚 have one at this time. If you want a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] function mid valve on said tractors the dealership will install the W.R Long that Everything Attachments and other offer for sale.

That being said if you really want to retain your JD ergonomic joystick I have been looking at the 6 series joystick grip and it appears to be the same as the one on the 5 series (minus the third valve switch) which may also be the same as the joystick sold when adding the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] diverter valve kit from JD. Either way you would still need to purchase the 6 series switch/wiring harness, which runs about $150 plus at least the left side joystick.

10 Handle Part Number SU39362 $19.13
9 - Wiring Harness Part Number SJ22455 $187.96
8 Handle Part Number SU39360 $19.13

Optional
6 - Wiring Harness Part Number SJ22454 $148.92

If you really have deep pockets I guess you could get the 6 series 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] function valve and install it (may require modifications/fabrication).

Hello...you can opt the from a "diverter" setup where you divert the dump/curl circuit to power the grapple when a momentary switch is pressed. This is the same setup I currently have-and I put it together myself.
or a "True 3rd Function", where the main hydraulic lines (called Power Beyond) are plumbed through a electric solenoid valve to give independent control of the grapple.
