Backhoe New 2310 - Tweaked backhoe mount?

   / New 2310 - Tweaked backhoe mount? #11
Paystar-- last summer when I had mine off, I took some shots of the set-up.

After BH is removed, there is the rubber bungee cord that holds the 3PH arms up, which will drop down immediately (as Jaybrad discovered...:D).

There's also a PTO cover which is held on with 4 bolts, but, for storage/BH installation, 2 are removed, the other 2 loosened, the cover rotated upward, the first two tightened to hold the cover up, and the pulled 2 replaced to keep track of 'em. Hope the photos are clear enough to figure it out--!

The only real PITA is the PTO cover.... but I wouldn't consider not placing it in the down position when using the 3PH.

First 2 shots are what you see after the BH is removed; one extra pic of the hydraulic fluid sight glass (oops!); the last picture is with everything down & ready to use 3PH.

Geez - I didn't even know that there was a 3PH cover and thought that mine must be different. So I went out to the garage to check, and what do you know? There *is* a PTO cover (that I have never touched).

As many times as I've used the chipper and snow blower, it's a wonder that I didn't wind up like the little man on the hazard illustrations - all wrapped around the PTO shaft.:rolleyes:

Jay-- here's a somewhat better shot from the manual, along with notes I made last summer, showing the PTO cover in "down" position.... You're right- that icon of the person wrapped around the PTO shaft is a bit graphic!

Wait a minute - you mean I was supposed to have actually read the manual - and made notes?

Gee, this tractor stuff sure is complicated.

I imagine that's the same set-up between the 2310 and the 24&2610?
Thanks for the pics. One salesman told me you have to remove the 3pt arms? Guess that's why I love this site. Lots of good salespeople, but some shouldn't be selling their own products:mad:

Paystar- As I understood it when I bought my 2310, orange SCUTs have to have the 3PH arms removed to install the BH, but not the Masseys.... one more point I liked.

Jay- hope you could read my margin notes, but remember to NOT remove all those bolts at the same time on the rear PTO cover-- there's a loose plate behind the frame that those bolts go in to on each side, and if both bolts on one side are removed, the plate will drop --and (most likely) immediately cause a string of expletives to emanate from one's mouth. As they say, don't ask me how I know!:D:D

I've noticed fussy pins on mine, too. Sometimes they glide like butter, sometimes they don't wanna play.
I've learned to make sure the saddles are clean, and use a long crowbar to 'jiggle' the backhoe while coaxing the offending pin into place.

Please don't tell the Safety Police, but I will probably not bother with the PTO cover. Then again, I also disabled the annoying seat cut off switch and only rarely use my seat belt on the tractor.

Maybe that's why the salesman gave the mis-info. He also sells orange, so maybe he was thinking of it.
So if I understand right, you don't have to unbolt any arms. Is it just pins you pull and fold them up?

That's it. Pull 2 clips, remove the pins and the trailing links swing up - all held nicely in place by the rubber bungy cord. Then you hook two of the hydraulic hoses together (a cap goes on the 3rd) and you're good to go. It is a whole lot easier than what those orange tractor people have to do.

I have a friend with a BX-24 and think he told me that the 3PH parts were actually an optional item he had to buy.
