Some of that choice is just a matter of personal preference. I very much like my 400cx (self leveling).
I would say if you plan to use pallet forks or a bale spear, then you would 100% prefer a self leveling.
If you plan to mostly use a grapple or bucket, it wouldn't matter as much.

If you aren't doing a LOT of fork work or big hay bale work I wouldn't do it. Normal loader work it's not needed.

I’m not up on the loader the loader specs for the new 4 series John Deere’s, but when I got my 4720 with the 400cx loader, I believe they were advertising 20% greater lift with the 400cx (self leveling) vs 400x (non self leveling).
