i see they made some excellent changes. the filter is definitely for the better ... so is the battery .... don't know about the muffler and the reduced went area of the engine cover. it gets very hot in there.

good job on the picture taking and presenting as well as on the new toy.

Pajoube,

Excellent job on the photos - thanks so much, and congratulations on the new tractor. It looks great!

Certainly, the changes make it much easier to change the filter, and the battery.

I do wonder about the reduced ventilation as well. Having the fuel tank incorporated into the hood would certainly make it a bit heavier. Does it now have a fuel gauge? The translucent tank on the previous generation makes it very easy to see the level, even when moving (I just turn around and take a peek). I really like the idea of the insulated exhaust - I've scorched my arm a time or two when lifting the engine cover.

It seems like the hoses would be a bit more difficult to get to? By putting all the frequently maintenance items up top it makes it much easier to hook things up like 12 volt accessories, but I like that my grubby little arms and fingers can pretty much get to all the hoses and fittings in the engine bay without too much bother. I wonder how the new design is on this point - it seems a bit more cramped.

What were their goals in redesign, I wonder? (Other than the obvious easy access issues for the battery and filter.)

It looks to me like a major goal was improved air flow under the hood--providing cool clean air for engine air cooling and combustion. A second goal was improved access for service--filling the gas tank without lifting the hood and servicing/removing the battery without major work.

New 425 engine pictures for you to compare between the old and new machines.

Thanks, Paul! Looks like some changes for the better...
Hydraulic filter and battery MUCH easier to access in those places. Still looks like the engine oil filter will be hard to get to; same as on mine. Just do it when the engine is cool. So they must have switched to a different variable volume pump. It looks like all the hydraulic pumps are now on the same side(front) of the engine, so I guess the variable volume pump has a shaft on both sides, now. The tank on the engine cover is different. Did they give you any instructions as to opening the hood if the tank is full? I imagine if the cap is vented, it might leak a bit... or is there something I'm missing. No big deal, just an observation/guess. And the engine towards the rear will surely help offset the higher lift. I like that.

Looks like a real sharp machine, Paul. Congratulations!!!

PS. Nice looking house, too. Did I read that sign in the front yard correctly? (gophers?) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
