Okay, here's the deal.. the baby is back safe and sound, although I just got home and haven't been able to try it yet.

They said the "Ignition Relay" up under the cowling failed. Not fault of mine, they say.

And I was misinformed when told the guy in the field wasn't able to start it. They said he did just jumper the thing, but they needed to order the part and make sure everything else was okay.. so easier to put it in the shop for a day or two.

So, a bad ignition relay. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

But, some good came out of this.. I learned not to back up after pushing down brush! (Even though that wasn't what caused this problem, it would have sure caused others if I hadn't learned.

So, all is well!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks very much for all of your help, folks!!!

Hi Bob,

Whew !!! What a relief to see Jezebel is Up and running /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif.

Just curious as to what the dealer charged you to pickup & deliver.

Take care
Mike

$70 /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif Seems to me that if the tractor fails, through no fault of my own, that warranty repair would include whatever it takes to get it working again. But John tells me this is standard, and the Deere dealer said he really had no choice. I think most car dealers require you to get the car to them on your own penny too, don't they?

Okay, no sense being /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif about this, when I can be /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif about having Jez back! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Bob,
Every new car that I've had in the last 15 years has included roadside assistance with the vehicle. If it breaks down anywhere they come and tow it. I had the starter go bad in my truck last year and they came out and towed it in right from the garage. I think it stinks that they make you take it in or charge you to come out and get it if it's under warranty. I know they do it but I don't think it's right. All of them have the same policy, not just deere.

That was kind of my reaction too. It's not my fault that the new, under-warranty, machine malfunctioned.. why should I have to foot the bill? Haven't I already given them lots of money?? If it had been my fault, that would be another story. But that's life. I just hope, as my wife said, that this thing doesn't turn out to be a lemon. But I know electronics can fail, and usually if they're going to fail they do it early on in their life span. So probably I'm fine. (Fingers crossed.) /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

That would burn me up, especially since they already diagnosed it in your field! I would like to know what they would say if you told them to bring out the part instead of the trailer.

I bet it would have cost less to buy the part than to have them haul the tractor around. It's not like they don't make anything if they don't charge you for transport; Deere pays them for warranty work. I think it's greed, not good service.

I totally agree with you. If the guy already dx. it in the field there was no reason to take it in. I would have a word with the service manager if I was you.
