Hey Doc - did you price a new battery from the dealer yet?

Just curious what they want for one since the battery in my TN75 is probably the same

I have not called the dealer. I did ask messicks, on sale 107, normally 127 (S and H extra).

The battery in my TN is still working fine and is 6.5 years old. It goes from 90 degree summers working hard haying to 15 degree winters plowing the driveway. Unless you just want to spend money, I would not worry about replacing the battery until it fails. Even then, it is an easy enough job it shouldn't take more then a few minutes.

I am glad that I have asked here at TBN. I am going to follow everyones advice and switch it out when it fails. You are right, it looks very easy to switch out. I will wait and see how many years I get.

Pine ridge: That battery bracket looks interesting but not sure it will work on mt TN65. Ship one to me so I can see if it fits. ;)

Do any of the tc or tn /a series tractors have batteries on swing out arms.. or was that method 'obsoleted' after the last of the FNH thousand series?

Anyone used both? which do you prefer.. the front lower radiator mount.. or the above engine swing out style?

I'm not picky, whichever one starts the tractor is fine with me. :D

never saw one on an arm. I like the one in front of the radiator. Nice cool location, with air passing over it on a hot day. Above the engine sounds HOT and hard on battery. Also, above engine sounds like a poor choice for keeping the CG low.

Wow.. i had a different take... I figured in front of the radiator it may get hot.. also.. if it leaked.. it had a nice paper thin radiator with which to leak on.. vs a cast iron head. CG... while this battery weight may make a big differenct on an 18 hp or a 25 hp machine. perhaps.. I don't think it does much on a 5xxx,6xxx,7xxx machine. After all.. these had a 20g fuel tank behind and slightly perched higher than t he battery. .. plus the driver sets higher... Considering the larger thousand series which have the square side opening hoods have weights inthe 3ton plus range.. i'm guessing 50-75# of battery don't overly affect the CG.

I was thinking more in terms of easier to service / remove / replace.

I'm always real carefull using tools around a radiator. i envision putting a screwdriver or wrench thru a radiator.. if I had to get at a battery right in front of it...

My NH1920 had a battery up front like that. i always thought it was a bit of a stretch to reach way down into that narrow cavity to get to the battery.. of course.. that was befor ethe new sloped hoods and different sheet metal.. that's whay I was asking.. seems the hoods and front cowling may all pop off / back completely now giving more access???

My TN is a sloped hood machine and the battery is very easy to get to and replace.
