New Boomer 8N for Christmas

It is a winter wonder land for sure, and bitter cold today. The high got to about -1, with wind chills around -20. Most places the little thing works great, when you get to hard drifts that are over the blower it can be a little difficult. The CVT is slick for blowing though, if you have enough traction you can just inch along, our problem is we got about a quarter inch of rain before the snow so it's ice under the snow. Here are a few more pictures.

Congratulations and best wishes!

Enjoy your toy..

Has she 'rolled' yet?

I just saw the post about making sure the park brake was pulled tight when getting off the tractor, now your "has it rolled yet?" makes sense to me. No, I haven't had that happen, but I'll be sure to watch that. I've had to push and blow a lot of snow in the last two weeks, so far so good, everything works great.

I had two times where this was a problem. The first was getting off of the tractor and leaving it running. I forgot to put the lever in 'N' and the safety thingee turned off the tractor when I was about 2 feet away.

The other happened once while I was trying to hook up the post hole digger. I did not have the idle turned up high enough to take the load on the hydraulic when I moved the 3 point hitch and it stalled.

Both times I had the brake on (pulled up) but perhaps I did not mash the pedal down hard enough when pulling the handle. If the engine is running it holds its place even on a hill.

As soon as it stalls the tractor will roll. Of course this is only a problem if you are on an incline. Pretty much anywhere at our place is on some degree of hill.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the tractor but I wanted to mention this issue as I never had to worry about this with my old TO-35.

I keep my snow thrower on the old Massey because I can't fit the backhoe in my barn and I don't want to just leave it out in the winter and get frozen to the ground.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the explanation, I was thinking it was somehow rolling while the engine was running, you explained it much better. This is the first tractor I've owned that you have to push the brake in and then pull up on the park brake, I always forget to apply brake first. How do you like the backhoe? I really want one but don't think I could justify the cost for the little bit I'd use it.
