New Carhart coat

I looked at that coat last week and really liked it. It was fairly light weight, yet warm enough for bad weather. Couldn't make myself spend that much on a work coat though. I could see myself freaking out about getting grease on it. Maybe someday I'll be rich enough to not care, or clean enough to not worry.

I'd be interested in how well it works for you. Those who create fibers have been coming up with some amazing new advances and some of those newer materials are very impressive. I like Carhart for how heavy duty all their stuff is. Not so much for keeping warm or dealing with extreme weather. I would never dream of bringing anything Carhart with me on a hunting trip into the mountains, but it's probably the jacket I wear the most when working on jobs here in Texas during the winter.

Thumbs up to what Eddy says. They make a good work jacket that takes a lot to rip. They should have a line that adds breath-ability.
Maybe w/ vents or convertibility.
I have a nice black Carhart that's my go to office dress up winter jacket. Warm, thigh length, lots of convenient pockets, open cuffs, and a snap on/off hood w/a wrap around chin cover that makes me look like Kenny from South Park when utilized.
I wouldn't hike or ski in it, that's not what it's for. Maybe if it had vents.
I have an old ragged classic style Carhart (ragged from fire, not so much from wear (- they're tough, but not that tough!). Even this thinner one keeps me warm snowblowing, though might need another layer or two. Don't like it's open face hood, needs the chin cover. Also I don't like the elastic cuffs on this style either (or any style). My short arms created a crease right at my wrists that was the first place to wear.
IMHO: A perfect jacket needs 4 things:
1) A good detachable hood that covers face when utilized.
2) Lots of pockets. And more pockets.
3) Vents.
4) Cuff tightness that the user adjusts (for different gloves, or ventilation, or to avoid the feel of "cuffs" - yuck!

Wrap around hood- check
Lots of pockets - check

I'm interested to see how rugged it is. Or maybe it's only good for riding your bike to yoga class!!

I really bought it because I didn't have a light weight coat to cover my gun. My wife is on my case about going around with my shirt untucked all the time. So this week is so warm I won't get to wear it.

Carhart is good stuff. My go to winter jacket for work around the farm is a 15 year old Carhart black duck with the artic lining and attached hood. The thing is bullet proof and always comes out of the washing machine looking brand new.

I've had a lot of Carhartt stuff over the years and it is certainly the standard of the industry. But I will add that Aramark [formerly WearGuard] deserves a serious look. Their lined overalls have longer zippers [legs and bib], higher reaching insulation, better fasteners, and better pockets than Carhartt. And they are typically much cheaper. And we shouldn't overlook Dickies -- they are still out there and they know what they are doing.

Got to have a jacket that can stand up to a arm full of hard oak firewood without tearing or ripping.
