New Checks

I haven't used checks in years...everything is now paid online, by debit/credit card or cash.
Just don't see much need for checks anymore...not in my circumstances.

BTW, I don't sign my card(s) either. I write "Ask for ID".

ya, i probably wouldn't either, but it is so much easier to do end of year taxes with the quickbooks and checks.

I personally hate sending them out with the wasted stamps on them.

Then again, i would NEVER trust online payments for mortgage or loan payments, as Ive seen what has happened to people over the years not having proof of payment as the banks try to repo them.

Luckily i have neither type of loans...and never will again...never i say. hopefully

When you pay online, there's a final screen for printing out receipt of confirmation. I use a .pdf printer-driver so it's all electronic. Then there is a trail to follow. Done this for years now...just make sure you back up the receipts in case your PC takes a dump.
I actually had to use these files for a small home equity loan that I was paying off. The finance company had outsourced some of their accounting work to India which lead to late charges on payments that were made on time. I had all my documentation so I was covered and it turned out the Indian company was screwing up.
Whatever works for each person is what they should do. In my case, I've found electronic storage works best.

Outsourced to india..dont get me started.

I called the IRS....our IRS earlier this year. I got a tech from INDIA.

If our own dam* government outsources the IRS to India, there is no hope for this country. There was no way i was giving my SS# to someone in India. wasn't going to happen.

I wrote a letter instead.

I still have to use computer printed checks for the business, but I'm using debit card more and more at the stores.

I have 2 credit cards for the business, and only use these to get the 1-2% rebates and 4% off of fuel purchases. I never carry a balance, and the credit card companies hate me. I do love the checks that they send me though.

They keep threatening me that there going to have to raise my interest rates.....i tell them go ahead...i don't carry a balance. They just don't get it.

That's the only way to use the credit card, pay it off every month.
Can't even think of the last time I had a balance on my card that I didn't pay off at month's end. I get 1% back on anything I purchase with my card, had two other with over $30,000. credit limit, got rid of them, thought when would I ever need that much credit, worried if I ever lost them someone could furnish their whole house, :licking: . So house and car insurance, you name it, anything I can goes on the card. That 1% does add up after awhile. ;)

Yup. And i love to mess with the credit issuers. 2 years ago home depot was offering 10% off your first purchase if you open an account. I read the fine print and it didnt set a limit. So i opened a card and was approved. I immediately bought all the 12/2 and 14/2 wire they had instock. About $14,000 worth. They balked at the purchase, but to their credit they allowed me to get the discount. $1,400 is alot of money to save, and i used the wire up pretty fast on my jobs.

When the bill came i paid it in full, and never used the card again. They contacted me after about 6 months and told me i had to use the card or cancel it, so i canceled it. Hay, its their game, i just play it.

I buy checks online from checksunlimited, you can customize them how you want them.

I just have my business name and address on my checks, I don't write checks at stores, just use credit cards or credit accounts for my materials etc. and write the checks a couple of times a month and put them in the mail. Yes the cost of postage does ad up

Grsthegreat,

I've heard of that practice but never looked into it. Turns out the cashier did the right thing.

Who knows who wrote that, Could be some identity theft ring :) it sure must not be practiced very diligently, around here anyway.

I haven't signed any type of credit card in 25 years, and I don't write anything about "ask for ID". I can honestly say I only remember one time a cashier asked to see my ID.

I still do alot of checks in my small business, never got into the online bill pay, I do opt for automatic withdrawals for loans, as you usually get a little better percentage rate.

The funny thing is I have a 6 digit account number at Bank of America, they go crazy when I go in the branch to do business, they say it can't be a business account. but I just smile and say that's how it was opened 28 years ago and how many name changes of the bank ago. They want me to open a new account but I refuse to out of fear they will start charging me fees.

JB.

I am thinking I will leave them like they are with the address and phone number, it's all in the phone book anyway.

I have "See ID" on the signature line on the credit card and seldom does anyone look at the back of it.
