New Checks

/ New Checks #21
When the bill came i paid it in full, and never used the card again. They contacted me after about 6 months and told me i had to use the card or cancel it, so i canceled it. Hay, its their game, i just play it.

Did you know that canceling a credit card can hurt your credit rating? Or, if one is looking for a job and that company (or companies) check your credit rating...that can also hurt your credit rating?
Totally nuts, of course...and just two examples of how credit bureaus can screw your life up with no liability on their part.

not sure if anyone posted this yet (i didn't read it all the postings) but the bank charges way more for printing checks than other suppliers.

We pay by paper check very seldom anymore. We use online banking since it is cheaper, faster, and easier. The online billing is tracked like a paper check but better. With an online check I have the statement from the bank saying when the check was sent and expected receipt. Some of the checks are paper as well as electronic transfers. Both are shown on the bank statement. If I use a paper check there is no proof at all that I sent the check. The check could have been lost in the mail or never sent.

No way, no how will I ever allow automatic payments or deductions. Nope Nope Nope. Did it once and the company made a mistake that took me months to correct. Never again.

I stopped using my debit card years ago to pay at retail. More paperwork on my part tracking the debits and the risk of the card getting stolen was too high. With a credit card my liability is nothing compared to a stolen debit card.

We now have two cards that give us from 1-5% cash back. I carry emergency cash and use the cards for everything. That 1-5% adds up FAST. I stopped at the store that issues one of the cards this week since they own me a bunch of money. :D One time I did this and they just credited the credit card which is fine with me. The last couple of years they had to give cash but they did not have enough cash in the register so they had to get the case from the office. This year the employee's eyes bulged out when the store owed me $300. :D

They are sending a check.

We have a couple credit cards that we do not use much. We got them as a backup to what was the primary card. The bank ended up sending us two different cards instead of one. I was going to cancel one of them but figured if I did so our credit score would drop since the amount of available credit would drop. We then got another credit card that gives us up to 5% off certain items so we really do not need the other two cards but I drop them are available credit will drop as well the credit score.

Security is a real concern. We just had an overdraft on a checking account we have not used in years. SOMEHOW someone figured out the account number and removed money. Eventually we got our money back but I do not know what happened. A few months later one of our credit cards was scammed. The card company caught the strange buying patterns and called us. We never paid a dime on the fraudulent charges.

We are pretty careful with the cards. Best we can figure an online store account was hacked.

No way would I put my SS number on a check.

Later,
Dan

I just ordered new checks and found out something new. The box of 125 checks has been lowered to 120. So now a booklet has 24 rather than 25 checks.

It' kind of like coffee. It has been a long time since they have put 3 pounds of coffee in a 3 pound coffee can.

You've got to be kidding me??? Friggin bean counters are going to ruin us yet!

I notice some of the caulking I buy in tubes is coming 1/2 - 1 once less per tube :confused2:

Wait till someone comes up with the 11 egg dozen

All this talk about credit scores has me wondering what mine is, haven't checked it in 3-4 years. At that time it was off the charts excellent. Not really sure why, it can't be based on income because mine is very modest, we do pay everything on time faithfully.

Do some research on credit scoring...it can be pretty arcane and the methodology varies from one bureau to another.

In my neck of the woods businesses won 't accept a paper check without address, phone number, and driver 's license # if they accept checks at all. Many if not most only accept some type of plastic now .

Our checking account came with free checks. Just dont pick the fancy ones otherwise they charge you.

My pilots license used to be my SS#. The FAA finally did away with that old system. Everytime my number was listed, my SS# was available to view. Oh, and you could go online and view pilot lic#... it was insane.

As for my credit score, im personally trying to get it down as close to 1 as i can. I was in the 800 range forever. Then i paid off my house.....man the credit bureau hated that. The score dropped about 120 points.

Then i paid off and canceled all but 2 cards.....down another 100 - 150 points or so.

I personally don't care. The credit card companies consider me a DEADBEAT as i own no one a single cent. They hate me.

Since ill never take out another loan again, and im self employed i don't care. If anyone reads my TRW report they will see everything paid on time, never a late payment. and SEE THAT EVERYTHING WAS PAID OFF IN FULL. iF THAT'S TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND THEN HE** WITH THEM.

(ps: how can i yank this caps key off of my keyboard)

When i bought my 2005 F350 about 1-1/2 years ago i went in with cash. That really messed with their heads. The dealership kept wanting my SS# to run for a credit check. I kept telling them it was a cash deal. It was getting ridiculous. People just dont know how to do cash deals anymore....its plastic or checks.

Are you sure they didn't want your ssn for the IRS? I don't know if it is a federal thing or just a MN thing, but all cash sells over $10,000 have to be reported to the IRS. I think it had something to do with the drug dealers years ago going into dealers and buying new luxury cars for cash.

Only thing I use checks for is to pay bills that do not have online payment. Most places won't take them anymore anyway or if they do they run them through their machine and then hand them back to you.

Only thing on checks is name and address, I don't think the doctor is going to send it back for no phone #.

That was a different form i had ... i got it from the bank when i pull out the cash.

They kept telling me they needed to run my trw.

i put my name, pobox and cellphone number on them. that way with reverse number lookup they don't get my house address... and they can't show up at my pobox to steal anything either.

also.. I only write checks to pay bills. to send money to people I don't know.. I use postal money orders...

The new thing is to just get the last four digits of your social.

That's all a thief needs, because the first five digits correspond to your birthdate and place of birth; information easily determined and seldom hidden.:(:(

Just leave the checks blank Most places will just run your check and hand it back with the receipt attached. If they don;t know you they won;t take a check

How are your insurance rates with a low credit score Americn Family raised mine becasue I jsut borowed 300,000 to stat a job they did the yearly check same time as operational loan hit. Conversation with agents solved that
