New Computer Has Me Screwed Up!

I'm not familiar with your operating system, as I'm still plugging along with 98SE, but it sounds to me like you need to find out how to get to your "Display Settings". Surely somewhere in the "start" area there's a help file? "My Computer"? You'll need to get to this in order to set your screen resolution.
Reading your description of your perceived problem I went to my "display properties" and changed my resolution to 800X600, which resulted in larger fonts and the TBN "picture" covered my screen left to right as you described. Changing the resolution back to 1024X768 resulted in a "normal" screen for me with the blank space to the right... as Gatorboy said.

I have been going to the Display Settings. But when I change the settings, all that happens is that everything gets equally larger (or smaller) in the same proportions. In other words, if I want to get the blank area off my screen, the fonts are so large that I would barely get the title of this thread on the screen! And the blank portion of the screen is still there, it's just off to the right out of sight until I scroll to the right. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Are you saying that I should be keeping everything in the smaller "Restore Down" size?

Yes. Back when monitors were small and 640x480 was the standard, you pretty much had to maximize your browser window. Now, with the larger monitors and higher resolutions, there is no need to do this -- you can size the windows for the website. Many websites (TBN included) keep the width of their pages under a certain size to allow most browsers to view them the same. So, if you a high resolution set on your monitor, you will often times have wasted space to the right if you only view your browser windows maximized.

I normally have 3 or 4 windows open at a time (some overlapping each other) to various websites and I can pop over to anyone by clicking on the window (which brings that one to focus).

Screen Shots:
Browser Windows
TBN Maxed (Notice blank space to right -- Is this the same problem you are describing?)

You can do screen shots by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Print Screen. This puts the image of your screen into your clipboard. Then go to your favorite photo editing software program and PASTE what's in your clipboard to a new image.

Well, yes and no.

Yes, that looks about the same size of blank space on my screen.

No, because in your shot, we can clearly see the horizontal lines between forum sections and threads, and we can even see the less visible verticle lines. I don't see any of those lines at all on my screen.

I'll try your suggestion for getting the screen shot when I can get back to the home computer either at lunch today or after work.

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is your new monitor an LCD flat screen? Some LCD monitors have poor contrast qualities, and the thin lines between sections may just blend together.

Sorry, I should have responded to this in my last reply. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I understand how having multiple windows opened at the same time works. I occassionally do that myself. But for the most part, I just have the one window open that I happen to be using. I believe this goes back a ways when one of the computers we had didn't have the ability to operate properly due to low RAM, and we could only have one program open at a time. But even when I "normalize" the TBN window (or The Golf Channel window), I still get half of the screen showing as blank. So changing the actual size of the window doesn't resolve the issue. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yes, it is.

Shouldn't the wider lines show up though? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If by wider lines you mean the darker grey bar behind the forum sections like "General" "Kubota" and "John Deere", then yes, those should be dark enough to show up with no problem.

Garry,
Does it look like this attached screenshot? See how much of the screen is not being used on the right side?

Jerry,

Actually, no. My screen doesn't show any of the sig pictures (like my smiling face or your fast car!;)), or emoticons, or any shading or lines. And the area where the text is is probably half again the size that yours looks like, so I have more blank space to the right.
