any suggestions for the 10 year old dell that i am replacing? i took the dvd burner out that is less than a year old, probably won't fit the hp, but i could get an adapter if needed, i like having two dvd burners, makes it easier to copy my pictures etc for the kids: also took out a dell movie card..should i remove the lithium battery thats inside the dell?? i may take the hd out an store it separately?? i don't have room to keep it set up, but have plenty of room in the garage to store it..
loaded the MS security essentials on the new computer, an it immediately wanted to update, so i went ahead an plugged in the internet cable to let it do that...

DVD players and burners are usually a standard size and fit in the 5.25" bay of any PC, so it should fit your HP.
There are caveats...some PC manufacturers (Dell, for example) had proprietory equipment and sizes so you couldn't update the PC unless you used their equipment. That has changed now, I believe.
As far as the HD and battery...sure, pull 'em out if you want to, but it's not really necessary. Do remove the HD before selling or scrapping the PC though.

BTW, I don't buy Dell equipment...I buy standard components or a barebones kit and build 'em up myself. There isn't much to it, actually.

Roy, Have you tried out the liquid CPU coolers? not that I'm having any issue with cooling on my current computers.:cool: But I am gathering up the hardware to build my own Barebone system and been wondering about any added benefits of the liquid cooler, actually more toward skeptical thinking then of benefits, when comes to liquid inside the case with a 750-1000W power supply and electronics,:confused:

here i am...can you tell i'm on the new hp computer? now i just have to figure out where
the favorites list is, so i can get that full of the places i surf: with this one on top of course: i know folks like to build their own equipment: and i have built more than my share of electronic equipment: but i haven't ever seen an advantage to building my own computer: the build is not the problem, its the software you have to buy and load etc etc etc: just don't see an advantage to me. i haven't looked inside this hp, but there are two different hookups for dvd recorders: the extra one i have is the old style, i am betting this computer has the newer style: but i think i have seen adapters to solve that problem;

Glade to read you're up and running:thumbsup: the Old style hookup you mentioned are the IDE the new style ATA/SATA interface, everything has went to the newer, and My luck is I have all old IDE stock-pile stuff,:cool:
It's kind of like the Old Rmbus memory modules, was the "Best ever" then faded out, Not too many people have any use for the old stuff these days,

Might be worthwhile if you overclock your CPU or video card...something hot rodder gamers do. IMHO, it would depend on what you use your PC for.
I don't overclock and I buy cards and CPUs that are one or two generations back...they're a lot cheaper and the difference in speed isn't noticable to my old eyes. So, I don't use the liquid cooled systems...but I do use two fans (system and CPU) and open the case to clean out the dust (most important).

The free wersion is just a limited functionality demo. Paragon wants to sell it to you, not give it to you.
They own Partition Magic now. That was, when I had a copy (Windows 98 edition) a great program. I've read very mixed reviews of their current product and customer service...just be aware of that.

Here's something to look at:
Best Free Drive Imaging Program
