Looking for a disc harrow to use with Massey Ferguson 240.

Have looked at TSC and called a few places.

Leinbach 20 disc 20" is $990.
Taylor-Way 20 disc 20" is $1150
King Kutter 20" 20 disc is $1299 at tsc.

I;m leaning to the Taylor Way....

What is too heavy for my Massey?
Any other advice is welcomed. Is 6.5' about the right size for my tractor?

800 lbs hanging that far back is going to make your front end light unless you have a FEL. 6 1/2 wide is about right. Ken Sweet

Can you recommend what the best option would be for my size tractor? Weight and width.....that will cut ground up good and last a long time....

You are on the right width at 6 1/2. Now get sealed bearings on the axles and adjustable tubular frame and weight you can handle and you are good to go. Ken Sweet

I have a 1998 Massey Ferguson 231. It's 38 engine hp and 34 PTO hp. It weighs 4,100 lbs. I have a 6.5' United 3 pt lift disk harrow. 20- 18" notched disks turning on sealed bearings. Not sure how much it weighs, but it's really heavy and I think United is made by The Leinbach Line.

The tractor does EXCELLENT with this harrow. I'm Very pleased with the way it handles it...

United manufactures their own line of disc harrows, and so does Leinbach. Both manufactures have different series of discs. I have carried and sold both lines.

no dish harrow in the 6ft size 3pt hitch models will not cut ground here well if it has not been turned every year or every other year or cut with a larger transport disk first. Yes my little harrow will not work well, on untilled soil, and yes its an angle frame, my uncles will not work well either behind his 35 hp JD thats 4wd and has a fel and a box frame disk.

I agree with it depends on the soil. I have a 6-1/2' Kingkutter 18" with 20 discs and I couldn't penitrate some old pastures that I had to tear up and wound up plowing first then discing. But, some real sandy type dry cheat grass was almost too soft gave my 35 hp 4 wheel drive a struggle. I need some mosture with my disc. bjr
