New *&%^ EPA Fuel Containers

I have a bunch of Jegs Jugs, but found that their spout left much to be desired and just pouring out of the jug wasn't practical for me. My solution was to get a siphon barrel pump Amazon.com: Siphon Pump: Everything Else cut it down to the height of the Jugs ...then, I lift it onto the hood of my tractor and can siphon nearly the entire can right into the fuel tank with one or two pumps/pulls ...I made the cut on a slant so as to leave any water in the bottom of the jug. If your fuel tank is lower, you can simply pump instead of siphon ...and you can't beat the price.

Yeah...as I've gotten older lifting those 5 gal containers is not so inviting.

I ended up getting a 12V diesel fuel pump from Harbor Freight. Put a piece of copper pipe on one end of the hose to stand up in the 5 gal container. Works absolutely great and pumps the tank full very quickly.

The price is ridiculous. But I was able to get it for $70 with a coupon last summer.

Bought one of those new-type cans in the US for diesel for my tractor & what a PITA. I disabled the shut-off mechanism in the spout, drilled a hole behind the handle on the top of the can & installed a tubeless tire valve with the core removed. I just remove the cap to let the can vent when fuelling my Kubota.

Now there is a good idea.

But...how do you get it installed. The rubber ones need to be pulled from the interior and the threaded ones with a nut on the end have to have the nut held from behind.

Do you just thread the valve into the plastic after drilling a slightly undersized hole?

Fairly simple:
1. Drill new vent hole
2. Fish a wire from the new vent hole to the filler neck
3. Attach the valve to the wire
4. Use the wire to pull the valve into place

I did that on one of the cans I threw away; it still leaked around the filler and if you tried to fuel too quickly(tip the can verticle) it would flood out the handle vent :( Tried venting with the schrader valve cap on(just loosened) and that didn't work for me either.

My solution was similar to Ken Pike's. Drilled a small hole in the handle and shoved a tapered golf tee in there. Works great.

When I got my tractor I bought a Blitz fuel can with the trigger. It leaks and when I asked the man at TSC about these, he said all the new type leak. This must be a better idea. Cuts down on vapors but they leak.

I hate them with a passion, seems like they only have this style available everywhere-I say shoot the inventor\engineer.

Good man, great idea.

Try the No-Spill gas cans. See

No Spill LLC

So far, they work great for me, in diesel for my tractor and in gas for my boat. No leaks! They have a flexible nozzle extension available if you need it; I don't. The diesel 5-gallon can rests on the hood of my tractor with its nozzle in the tank fill pipe, and I just have to hold the button in until it stops filling (automatic shut-off). Takes just over a minute to empty a 5-gallon can. YMMV.
