Thats probably the best/easiest towing guide I've read. Pretty clearly states all capabilities and defines some of the common mistakes like the different ratings of weight carrying and weight distributing capacities.

Also looks like the new F150 is a beast. But it does look like you need to order the heavy payload option, which puts you into that 7 lug/wheel monster. I have not seen a newer truck with that package, but have seen the older "7700 package" or prior to that the LD F250. They were the ugliest things to hit the streets since the Thing!

I had a 7,700# 4x4 F-150 with 4.10 gears and the 5.4L. It was a beast.

Hey, somebody needs to tell GM that their new ads (starting tomorrow, and can be seen here The Legendary Stories of Duramax & Allison) almost sound like the political ads that just stopped. Rather than tout what their trucks can do, they depend more on "Max" and "Al" to take shots at Ford.

There again, I got to "pre-view" the new Ford ads that also will start tomorrow and it's more Dennis Leery (sp?) ranting. But, at least he's ranting about the 4 engine choices and capabilities of their trucks and not using half of their commercial time bashing GM.

GM's head of advertising was interviewed for Automotive News and specifically questioned about his 'bashing' commercials GM has coming out. He defended them and said that just like in politics, knocking your opponent down sells. It's been a while, but I was always trained to sell on the merits of my product and not even mention my competition. I guess we'll see which type of ads are more effective.

That is one thing that really surprised me with Ford. They have never taken stabs at GM being government owned. They are better than I am. I would have been all over that.

I guess when you have the best product though you do not need to stoop to such levels. They sell themselves.

GM publicly announced yesterday that their "new" IPO stock will start between $26 and $29 per share. I'd heard that news a couple of months ago and that's about the only thing I really have against GM. I held, well, still hold - but it's worthless, a few thousand shares of GM stock. I got spanked hard enough to not forget nor forgive that ripoff for a lifetime. My stock in the "old" GM is worth about $0.24 a share. A very warm place will freeze over before I buy another penny of GM stock. I could be very wrong, but I think their IPO is going to flop because they literally destroyed a big part of millions of people's life's savings less than a year ago and now say "Hey, trust us, put your money with us again".

Not me! I'm just glad that about the only good stock purchase I ever made was buying heavy into Ford when it was just over a buck a share. It's still down, but just over $16 a share is a whole lot better than less than a quarter a share! You know the old saying about burn me once, shame on you; burn me twice... Well, GM isn't going to get that 2nd chance to burn this guy. Sorry for the mini rant, but GM burned me on stock worse than any company I've ever invested (which means believed in enough to bet my hard earned money on) in. For me, that's a wound that won't ever heal just like it is for millions of others; especially the GM workers and GM suppliers who had most of their 401K in GM stock. I can't imagine what it would feel like to work all my life and have a couple million in my retirement account a year or so before I plan to retire to now have less than $50k in that account!

Ford as a company might not have, but at least around here one or two of the larger Ford dealers mention that Ford didn't receive any government bail out funding in their commercials. I do agree though that I prefer someone to talk about the merits of their product when they want to sell me something as opposed to putting down the competition. Strangely it was some of the tractor salesman's attitudes about doing nothing but belittling the competition that kept me from patronizing them. I don't think that GM has gotten to the level that I experienced tractor shopping, but I do agree that I'd prefer that they took their marketing in a different direction.

The 3.5L Twin Turbo really looks like the future. It uses a injection system that is very similar to a diesel.

Chris, I thought you were talking about engines currently available, but when I went to fordvehicles.com, I found the 3.5 turbo not listed. However, I did find some other websites with stories about it. But my Ford dealer sent me an e-mail earlier this week to stop by today and pick up a free turkey, so I did, and I asked the salesman when the 3.5 turbo was going be available and he said the word they have is that it'll be available in March. I'm only guessing, but isn't that the same engine currently available in the Taurus SHO?

The 3.5 ecoboost TTV6 is the same one used in the SHO, but retuned for truck duty. The F150 is the first RWD application for the ecoboost V6.

I would generalize, IMHO, repeat IMHO, and for my kinda wheeling, for general off-road, my following list. If you want to get in to more specific applications, the list would vary:

1 - Jeep CJ/TJ/Wrangler series. Can simply go about anywhere
2 - FJ40 Land Cruiser/early Bronco tie. Bigger, heavier, but can still go about anywhere
3 - Early Scout/Samuri. Decent rigs that can manuever really well.
4 - Range Rover/Nissan Patrol

This didn't make your list???
