New Farm Force rake - bent in 60 seconds?

This was my fix for the bending, twisting problem. New channel under a 7" x 4" x 3/8" thick tube. No bending here.:D

Yeah, that's clearly the direction I need to go.

The gauge wheels bent mine. On lawn. Without disturbing the lawn. Ridiculous.

Yep, definitely the wrong application for channel, as it is not reallly very strong when a twisting force is applied. John, the 4 smaller pieces of channel you mentioned on the bottom are not really structural. They appear to have notches milled in them to keep the tines parallel which IMO is their only contribution. If they had used a piece of heavy wall boxtube instead of the channel for the main crossbar, they would have probably had an OK product. Shame on whoever at TSC decided to take on this line, without some educated eyeballs, and a field test...

Excellant job on upgrading.

This comment nails it. The pivot point on other rakes is beefed up with a box design. You can easily make this area stronger.

I don't blame TSC, They are looking for more competitive products.
We have a choice; Buy for price and make them work better or spend big dollars up front and sometimes avoid this problem.(sometimes)

I have the same exact rake, and the same exact thing happened to me. I went to TSC tonight and with a little arm twsting, I got a new rake. Like you, I am concerned about it happening again......

The problem with TSC offering to sell untested products is that they are quickly gaining a bad reputation for selling junk. It seems to me that they could have someone on staff do a little research on the suitability of the new implement(s) before offering them. There are plenty of low-cost products that still will do the job....and a little in-house review/ testing can weed out the bad stuff. Or, at a minimum the manufacturer should have some product testing to prove the worthiness of the products. Why let your customers be the new product guinea pigs??? Not too bright...if you ask me.

Nothing like a quality first post. Digging up a 2yr old thread to tell him he was operating it wrong, which I don't see anywhere that he posted that he was using it in reverse?

Not starting an argument, but take a closer look at the pics, the tines were twisted to the rear, therefore, the OP was going foreward.
