Well our road association decided to install the last gate we will ever need. The old gate was starting to sink and lean and with the amount of use it was getting the original hinge set up was not keeping up. The new gate has a Teflon sleeve with bearings and zirc fittings to keep it swinging smoothly. We wanted functionality not a work of art.

We replaced the galvanized tube gate with a 4" square steel tube gate with 5" steel pipe posts set in concrete. Here are a few pics! We set the gate and post one day and the opposite post the following day, both with a rebar cage and 4 yds per post. Why so much concrete? The gate is 20' wide, we want it to stay plumb forever! Not bad for a few retired guys with more time than experience and a few machines to help.

We got lucky, yesterday the day after the install we got our first snow of the season, less than an inch but we could not do the final grading and cleanup until today. I will post a picture of the final project tomorrow.

Should stand the test of time unless it gets hit by a truck or plow...

Looks good...

Nice touch using the reflector tape. Still a matter of time until somebody hits the gate, there are just too many people driving who are not looking at the road

We have 20 parcels behind the gate, only 9 full time residents, they should all know where the gate is by now. Also a reason for the 20' wide private road. Due to our road conditions during bad weather, deliveries that used to be door dropped are now left in an enclosure near the gate. Funny even in good weather the deliveries are always left at the enclosure even though UPS & FedEx have their own key code for the gate. So much for the door to door deliveries we pay for. I guess it's a trade off for having the gate.
