Well between the Mahindra, a bunch of buckets of rocks, SWWBO, a landscape rake, and a lot of hours on and off the machine, we did something right.

October, one mound of dirt shown

early April, raked once and gathering rock

Today, cut it for the first time.

Still have some bare spots and its rough from the rains but not to shabby. The front of the house I put in a week later. It went in a hurry because of the weather forcast. It still looks like its going to grow ok. I covered 4 stumps with horse poop ringed with rock (had a lot of them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) and jammed some roses in the piles. 4 out of 5 look like they like their new home.

Great looking job! What kind of rocks are you raising? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just kidding, it looks great. What kind of grass seed did you plant?

That's quite an improvement over the way that it looked when you started. If you keep after it with fertilizer it will soon look like this.

Pine, you planted grass all over my retaining wall!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I just want to know what you drove up the 1:1 bank when you raked it?

That brown area at the bottom of the last pic is going to get dug back eventually and a wall is going in. From the lower mid of the pic at the tree next to the rock garden to the upper right is the second area that was seeded. It is about a week behind. That is a high spot that breaks water to the left through a culvert under the road and right across the front of the house in a swale into the woods. Geeeze, give a guy some time to grow grass /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Tech specs:
put down 320lb of 12/12/12 pre seed
Spread a coat of last years fescue 30+- lbs (type? cheap /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Spread triple rye pretty heavy, 44 lbs over the whole thing
Drug chains over it to get some dirt over the seed
covered with hay and watered
Last week, after the grass (rye) was 6-8 in high in places I overseeded with a contractors blend of 3 rye, a bluegrass and red fescue.
cut the grass over top of it.

I guess at this point I would be putting some fetilizer down with a high nitrogen content. Young grass will really take off with nitroggen but be careful with spring plantings as the summer along with nitrogen can do some burning. I typically will do my grass seeding in the fall but did do about an 1/4 acre once in the spring with good results.

320 lbs of 12/12/12 not enough???? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Plus horse poo of course.

I dont know if I want to hit it again A because of summer and B because it might grow to fast!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
