I have been to the board many times, but first time posting. I wanted to let you know a problem I had with my 2006- 2305. 150hrs.

My 2305 stopped starting for no good reason. It would turn over fine. The battery checked out good with volt meter and cell inspection. I cleaned the terminals anyway and re-cleaned the ground to the frame. Checked fuel and filter. Checked air intake. Plus other things all were fine.

The thing which was lacking was the "click" on the fuel solinoid. I removed the solinoid which is just above the fuel filter on the engine. Attached with 2 10mm bolts. I checked that the solinoid was working. It plunged out and back with the turn of the ignition, so I thought all was well. I put it back on.

Just to be sure, I bought a new battery. Still no go. I was very frustrated

I had the JD dealer tech make a house call. He said that there was a problem with the solinoid by the sound of it. I learned that the solinoid has 2 relays. One to move it out and the other to hold it open. The plunger was moving out, but not staying out. It was not the solinoid or one of the two relays. Rather it was one of the small diodes between the relays and the solinoid. He had to really dig to find it. The diode which was on the "hold open" relay was corroded. He simply cleaned it with solution and put it back on. If it fails, I can put a new one in at a very cheap cost myself.

So $230 for a $5.oo di-ode.... go figure. Just happy to be back at it. I hope this helps somebody.:confused2:

Welcome to TBN:D

Thanks for the great post! I have read/heard about this issue many times on older tractors with Yanmar engines-but this is the first on one of the newer models. Your info will surely help someone:thumbsup:

Great find. I ran into the same problem on a JD 2755 cab. Headlights and fender lights not working. Checked fuses, switches, lots of tracing wires. Finally, inside the steering column, under some electrical tape, a faulty diode. Soldered new one in and everything worked great.

Real needle in a haystack sort of stuff.

How does anything corrode in CA? Do you store the tractor indoors?

I am the second owner. I purchased it one year ago (80hrs) and it seems as if it was stored in a garage. I do store it in a garage also. It was the tech who said it was corroded and I did not question him. I have had corroson on electrical connections on my cars in the past here in Clovis, CA. The tech cleaned it by squirting a solution from a can into the diode and brushed it.

My 2305 would not run when I went to use one morning. All it would do is spin. I read on the forums about the v4 diode and the possibility of the solenoid going bad.
I purchased all three diodes from john deere and a solenoid from ebay for way less than john deere. after I pulled the solenoid the engine would run. I had to stick my finger in the hole to shut it off. when connected to the tractor I found that the solenoid would not pull in but would remain pulled in if I pushed it in and would pop out when I turned off the key. testing the solenoid proved there was nothing wrong with it so I have an extra one if someone is in the market. My old one is fine.
also the ignition switch is what I supect has been the problem all along because in the past when I would turn the key to the on position the dash lights would flicker and I would here a groaning noise. I would crank the machine and when releasing the key to the on position it would shut down. wiggling the key up and down would have an effect on the flickering and the groaning noise. after a few tries the machine would stay on. Now the when I turn the key all the way nothing happens at all. only if turn the key just a hair past the on does the starter crank the engine but I believe that switch in its condition is no longer applying voltage to the pull in circuit of the solenoid. I do not know how to trouble shoot the ignition switch to save me money. Does anyone have any ideas?
