New Guy Window Shopping for a Compact

Kubota is migrating to the the side by side pedals. At the dealership last week, all the new 70 BXs had them, as far as I could tell. If I had purchased a 70, I'd adjust, I think. I ended up with the 23 hours 60 series BX, so no adjusting required on my part.

I don't mind Kubota's front pedal/ back pedal system. (The rocker mechanism is split and is actually below the floor). I find it quite comfortable. I would NOT like the full blown rocker treadle, sitting atop the floor board, however. I have used those on many other makes of tractors and do not ever get comfortable on those.

I just checked their website and it shows dual pedals, but not side by side, very similar to our BX2660. Our BX2200 has the full treadle pedal as did our 5030 and it was OK, but I do prefer the newer style. On my L5740, it is all one pedal, but I use my toe for both forward and reverse due to the design.

As mentioned, I can use either type with no strong preference. My wife on the other hand has laid down the law, no more green tractors.

OH, I think I remember now. hahaha. It's the brake pedal being moved to the left that Kubota is doing on the 70 BX. That's what I saw. It is LS who is migrating to the side by side pedal arrangement and ditching the big treadle thing. Since LS makes some models for NH and my dealers sell both NH and Kubota , it is pretty easy to confuse me.

I sure know the feeling, trust me.

Yeah even the new L60 has moved the brakes to the left and I imagine as new models come out they will do so as well. I am a dinosaur and prefer the brakes on the right where god intended them so I bought an L40 while they were still available.:)

Like JOHNTHOMAS, this is my absolute last tractor and I mean it this time...

I would also put the J series from LS on that shopping list. It is a Mahindra Max sized compact. Slightly larger than the BX from Kubota and roughly the same money. There is a substantial difference in the BX and B. The subtlety can not be appreciated just by staring at two machines sitting in a dealer lot with horsepower stickers that appear to be the same.

HP ratings can be achieved by different means, such as revving the engine. Take note of actual cubic inches and torque.

LS just released a new model J series unit with side by side pedals. Worth a look see. Kubota is also going to side by side pedals on many models so that features alone shouldn't blur the comparative glasses so much.
BTW, I think LS factory is in NC.. I have a J2030H and am well served-

John Deere, Kubota, Kioti (or any other rebranded made by the Daedong Corporation from South Korea.)
I'm partial to the Kioti/Daedong tractors because they haven't gotten as full of themselves price-wise as JD and Kubota.

Thanks for all the good advice, looks like Kubota is my top choice. I am looking at dealer lots and CL ads for used ones as well. Easy enough to see what new has to offer, the older models would require more research and back to this forum. I have searched and read many threads here already and learned a lot, many thanks to the members. If I get a chance today, I am going to stop by Kubota dealer today 30 miles away and see what they can offer.

The price hikes of recent years, especially this past year with the whole Tier4 thing going on, has made the low hour, late model units much more attractive. It wasn't always this way and every area of the country differs too. But, I just picked up a 23 hour, like new, BX2360 for $4K off the dealers best price for the new version. On a percentage basis, that amount was huge and plenty enough savings to entice me. Lots of things I can put that kind of money toward.

Buying like this isn't for everyone as the financing and warranty issues sometimes outweigh all considerations in some folks' minds, but not for me.
