My 2120 bought from the original owner (Ford tractor salesman's personal machine) is a 1993, no trace of New Holland name on it, Ford all over.

I own a 99 1720 with 550 hours...
I purchased it in 2006 with 245 hours...
Just got an FEL and pull a 6' RFM weekly in the summer...
Great tractor and very reliable...
I think that when NH purchased Ford they kept the Ford lettering for a few years and then transitioned with Ford-New Holland and then New Holland...
They are still the same tractor...

I posted the tractor was for sure a 1981.now I'm not sure what I got. The I.D tag was not on the tractor. I Recived a operator's manuel with the tractor and inside the cover was a I.D tag from New Holand *UL423XX Model AL 413A Engine #N843-598XX Unit 9E258 The tractor has the 4-speeds on the left side of the seat and 3-speeds with reverse near the steering column. It has 3200 hrs on it. Sorry for the confusion. I guess I was told it was a 1981 fron someone who didn't know.

Maybe you got a 1981 Ford 1700 with the wrong owners manual for a 1720. Post a picture.:confused2:

leftybob, it sounds like you have a 1720, but its not a 81. The 1700 would have 2 shifters under the seat. Some 1710's had a similiar setup as the 1700, and some like mine have 1 under the seat and a 3/R steering column setup (like you said) but none had a shifter to the left. I got a few hours on my uncle's 1920. That has a setup like you described. And since the 1720 is only one size smaller, seems logical for it to have the same setup.

I just noticed you said the shifter was near the steering column...the 1710 shifter is built into the steering colomun. Also, if the tractor has a oil bath air filter, it is probably a 1700. There might be other little details to look for but Im unaware of any.

I have a 1992 Ford 1720 with about 2030 hours. It has a sims full metal cab with upper and lower doors with glass. I primarily use it to haul cord wood, Split and chip wood and remove snow. I also use it for improving my lot.
I just bought a used Woods BH with subframe that is being removed from a
'94 1720 NH. The previous owner is going to give me the parts for attachment and Hydo connection which I will put on my 1720. Then I need to get my 1720 to his place an hour away to attach the BH and bring it home. Seems like a crazy process but the only one we can come up with...
My pto clutch doesn't work but the drive clutch is very strong. I am going to have a mechanic check the adjustment and peek to see if the pto side is rusted.

I have a 92 1720 and the shifter's are on the left, only control below the seat is on the right one for the axle lock and the handle for the 4 wheel drive. there is a tag on the right side of the eng. below the oil dip stick where you control the hyd system. Hope this helps if you need more info let me know.
