Hi,

I'm in the UK and looking for a Compact Tractor, primarily to cut the grass but also carry out a few other odd jobs throughout the year.

I have been to look at a New Holland TC27D which is in pretty good condition, has around 3500 hours on the clock and its used weekly. Its fitted with a 60" ( i think ) belly deck and its up for £6250 ( approx 8k USD ).

Does anyone have any history with this model, are they any good. Is it worth the money ?

I was originally planning on getting a PTO driven Flail mower so i'm not sure if i want the belly deck or not, I really don't want the grass being sprayed out the side ( which is how its currently set up ) as i'd prfer to have a Mulching deck.

Can you stop the belly deck from spraying out the side at all ? I guess i'd have to change the blades to mulching blades too.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

As a whole the TC series tractors are very reliable and popular tractors. They were made by Shibaura for NH. They are getting a little long in the tooth, so some parts are no longer available. Specific to the TC27D, it seems NH disowned, for lack of a better term, the TC27D when you search for parts or information. See the search list results below from the Messick's online parts search engine. Consensus is it used the same components as the TC25D and the TC29D, except for HP, although I have never seen definitive proof. That was a common practice by NH, as my TC40DA is in the TC35/40/45DA group.

As far as the deck I have seen folks change the blades out to mulching blades, remove the grass chute, and fabricate a covering for the opening. How much difference in results from a purpose-built mulching deck could vary, based on the mowing height and grass height. You can get an adapter kit for a ZTR deck that allows you to open or close the discharge chute with a handle and cable that you might be able to adapt to that deck.

I have a tc 29d and a 45d both are very reliable tractors and never had any problem getting parts for them especially maintaince parts there were so many of them made there is a healthy aftermarket support network. There are also a few salvage yards around that specialize in that era tractor. 🍻
