New Holland TC45D won't start fuel supply issue

Just glad it worked out for you. Hopefully you found out about the right part number before they shipped the wrong one ... been there/done that. I really do miss the old days when you had real "parts men" that could find an interchange/crossover on more than an oil filter, and knew what questions to ask to confirm it was the right part.

I’ve debated rebuilding my 45da lift pump. It surges a little at idle and seems to get a small amount of air in the top of the filter continuously. But it runs and operates fine. Never sucks air in.

I thought mine was bad but my tank was in horrible condition after years it had collected a lot of dirt/sand /gell/bio mass at the bottom. Cleaned and all is well. Still have a first cold start surge but goes away in seconds.

It's funny. I bought the repair manual and there is no mention of that pump anywhere that I can find except in a simple diagram that shows the fuel system

I have noticed my TC45DA surging at idle.

So you think it is the lift pump causing the surging?

I capped off the line from the top of the filter to the return line and now my fuel filter always stays full.

I am going to try cleaning my fuel tank this winter.

Maybe. These are “known” for it but I don’t except that completely. Just seems to me like it’s a tad bit of air in the system. I seem to notice what appears like the ever slightest weepy around the diaphragm via dust collection and color. Nothing wet for say. But if it has any kind of leak that means air can get in.

I am about to replace all of my return lines while I have a bunch of panels off repairing my clutch brake. My returns look rather rough. Injector lines and crossovers are newer. No leak/dirt build up around those connections.

Well it turns out I didn't get it fixed. Been struggling with it for a while now and it just wouldn't start. Sprayed and dried the outside off and I see no leaks. Today I took the banjo bolt out and blew some air through it and put it back in. It fired right up and I ran and worked it for about 30 minutes or so and checked again. No apparent leaks but it seems I am sucking air some place. But where ever the air is getting in fuel isn't getting out. All rubber and clamps replaced. I am at a loss.
Is there somewhere else I should be looking for air getting in? Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Start eliminating things..
I would start w the filter..
Get yourself a couple of barb fittings to bypass the filter and hook the lines together..
If that doesn’t do it, my next move would be the fuel tank..
Get a clean 1 gallon container w a screw on cap..
Drill a hole in the cap to accept a rubber line..
Fill it with fuel and turn it upside down..
I haven’t read the thread.. so idk what u tried or not.
If the engine shuts off with the key switch.. eliminate it..
I think that one unscrews..
So unscrew it and put a piece of duck tape over the hole..
Good luck

I have had the tank out and cleaned it. I like the idea of bypassing the shut off I will try that tomorrow. The ignition switch was replaced not too long ago because key got broke off. I've had the tank out and cleaned it out. The only line I haven't replaced is tank to filter. Was hoping to avoid that. Could it leak down there after tractor is shut off from that line. I get solid fuel flow with out leaks the whole way to banjo/bleed bolt

Where is this at?

I had one that I did the pump with new pumping plungers.. I rebuilt the injectors with new nozzles, did a compression test, they were all at 290psi… and checked the glow plugs..& it wouldn’t start.!!!
The compression was low but not VERY LOW..& they were all even..
I had plenty of fuel to the pump..the umpteen times I had it in and out.. it was gravity fed..

I was just about getting ready to throw in the towel when I decided to remove the banjo bolt from the pump inlet line and back-blow the line to the tank..
THATS WHEN I HEARD A POP..THEN I REALLY GOT FUEL TO THE PUMP.!!
Hooked it all back up and the engine immediately fired up.!!
I’ve been working on Diesel engines and injection pumps for 40 years.. & never in a million years would I have thought that the pressure I was seeing at the pump inlet wasn’t sufficient..(gravity fed)
