New Holland vs. Kubota

The Kubota mower deck floats better for me. I was having scalping issues with the New Holland deck as I would crest the top of a grade to a flat area

Bizdoc I think you made a good choice if you mow alot with that 72" MMM. Before upgrading to my DX45 I had a DX29 along with the rear discharge 72" MMM. It was my only complaint about the tractor. Scalping issues were not too bad but the deck profile was not deep enough. Even though it was a rear discharge, its was really a mulcher and did not really discharge. Unless the grass was dry and 4" or less it would often clump up, bog down, and had to almost stop as the deck spewed big clumps of grass as it cleared. It was extremely frustrating since I had the same problem with the 60" MMM on my previous DX24. I think it's just a design flaw in the mower deck that even my dealer mentioned was a problem. Now I've got a DX45 for my tractor chores and a grasshopper mower, which by the way cut my mowing from 4 hours to 2-1/2. (and if you didn't notice, I'm on my third tractor in 3 years and am a perfect example for the "buy bigger crowd" $$:($$)

I have hauled my D40 with FEL and Bhog with a 1998 Dodge 1/2 ton a lot of miles on a 16ft tandem axle trailer (with brakes) and never felt overloaded. If you are loading onto a trailer without blocking the rear of the trailer up you are asking for a problem.

I have a 97 dodge 1/2 ton extended cab. It is fine for trailering a TC45.

when looking for a mid sized CUT, i looked at Kubota ,but was turned off by all the electronic BS that came on them. For something that would live outside and see lots of outside use, i wasnt going to risk the potential problems associated with such an electronically controlled tractor.

My 2001 came from the factory with only a PTO/gear lockout for startup. 2 very easy electronic items to diagnose and possibly bypass if there were an issue with them.

the hr meter is good ol fashion analog, no pixels to drop no LCDs to break....

When you talk about real operator comfort and ergonomics, New Holland would be my choice. I worked at a New Holland and Kubota dealer, and both companies make excellent equipment.

The push (from a sales perspective) with the two brands seemed to be Kubota: cheap, not as nice, good for rental yards, or if you're buying it for a helper to run.

New Holland: maybe more expensive (maybe not), much nicer, kind of a treat for your own personal self.

I have a Ford(New Holland)2120 and a Kubota 3030. Both are good tractors. To me the number one concern is the DEALER. Check with people in your area to see who really bends over backwards for the customer.

Amen to that. The dealer makes such a difference. If you're going to buy on the internet and pay $1500 to haul a tractor to your place to save 50 bucks, then you have no way to unload it, what are you saving?

Most tractor dealers have been around for decades. Ask around.

Go the the Tru-Value. Hang out for 5 minutes and you'll hear some stories.

When I was looking I checked out both NH and Kubota at the same dealership. Comfort wise for me NH was way better. The specs were better than the competing model (though Kubota wasn't selling the 7800 yet, but I was able to try it out).

If I had ended up orange life would be still grand. :D

I concur with your uneasiness with the electronic frill and fluff. I went down to a local dealer who sells both Kubota and NH. I admit I was somewhat biased toward the NH from the beginning but after looking at the Kubota tractor and the accompanying literature, I was put off by what I considered unnecessary complexity being built into their tractors. I am a software developer and I have come to appreciate that in many cases the simpler solution is the better solution. More frill and fluff = more complexity = higher probability of problems. Which to be fair, is why I would shy away from NH's Super-Steer / Sensi-Track option. Of course there are always exceptions to any rule.

Tractor Chick essentially echoed what the dealer told me when I asked them what they thought of the Kubota versus the New Holland. They said the NH was a little more expensive but a better tractor and worth the extra cost. Of course they are a dealer and no doubt looking to sell a more expensive tractor, but for what it's worth, when the sales manager bought his tractor he choose NH (tc55).

I too would rather have an analog than a digital meter. Unfortunately, the 2330 I am buying has a digital meter (darn!). The really strange thing is that if memory serves me correctly, the 2310 and 2320 tractors both have analog meters. Go figure. Anyone know why they put a digital in the one and analog in the other two (they are all in the 23xx series)?

I have a Kubota L4310 w/ ag tires bought used. I pleased w/ the tractor for our use - but could use a l ittle bigger model.

It seems that for the same HP, NH is heavier than Kubota and the front tires are larger (helps loader operation) - both a plus IMO.

Look at fueling ease - my tractor fuel tack cap is on the hood - i.e. no fun lifting a 5 gal. tank to re-fuel. I believe new model Kubotas offer a lower fuel tank hgt. though.

Be sure to look at a factory cab if you live in snow country.
