Kawasaki Pro FXT LE owner here, but likely would have seriously considered the Honda if their rear seat and bed design was like the Mule Pro FXT. We have elderly folks come visit and that second row access is not easy, and in addition, it appeared to me it would be a pain in the butt getting sand, dirt, and gravel down in the cracks where the seats fold down. I wasn't thrilled to go CVT and would have preferred the Honda transmission or a full hydrostatic, but, so far, the Pro FXT has surpassed all my expectations. Bed conversion is stellar. Ease of getting into both rows is superb. Torque is massive. I felt bad for Honda that they keep going with that same bed design as it likely is perfect for alot of folks, it just didn't seem the most practical or usable to me.
I hope there are bed accessory options available for the Honda Pioneer 1000-4 like they have for the Honda Pioneer 700-4 which I have. When I got my 700-4 there were 2 options: 1) full one piece bed insert, and 2) bed floor mat. I got the full bed insert which weighs about 20 lbs and is easy to install and remove (forgot price). Otherwise, I probably would not have gotten the Honda 700-4.

I think the paddle shifters only come on the more expensive power steering models.
Thought I read somewhere paddle shifters are not included on the non EPS units.
$1,200 upgrade to get power steering, paddle shifters

I saw a Pioneer 500 base model today with paddle shifters.

It seems very complicated compared to a hydro or CV drive.

I know I can repair/replace a CV drive belt for $60 cost of the belt...

Wonder what it costs to repair a Paddle Honda 500 or 1000?

I have the 1000-5 deluxe with the paddle shifters and they work great. You can switch it to straight up manual mode where all shifting has to be with the paddle shifters, or just leave it in auto mode and up or downshift from any given gear at will. The 6 speed trans is nice and does such a treat job in auto, I don't use manual mode that much. When I use it, it's mostly just for fun.

You do have 12 gears. 6 in low range and 6 in high range, but a rough example: 3rd low is close to the same gear as 1st high.

Also a high and low range coupled with the 6 speed trans gives you 12 forward speeds.
