Please excuse my ignorance as I know nothing of house construction. I'm just wondering what the spaces in the block where the house meets the foundation are for.

Are you refering to the vent openings?

Homes with pier and beam foundations have an open crawl space under the floor. This area is vented to the outside and covered with a fine screen.

Thanks for the kind words guys. We LOVE the brick, I can't recall at this time what it is called but I think it has just the right blend of shades with enough "white" not to look dark. The only parts of the house that are going to be brick is the main front gabble (running back to the front door), the garage gable, and the front/left/and right side foundation. We are going to use harde board on the rest of the extrior. Trim/paint/brick work will be done this week...

We love brick and are bricking ours as well. But we have grown tired of red, red and more red. Don't get me wrong. Love the colors, the accents with it, we just want something different. Going with St. Augustine by Hanson... pic attached... maybe...
