The hydraulic pump on my FX20D blew out when the high pressure line got caught in some brush and disconnected. In short I got an exact replacement pump and refilled the system with NAPA 85-475 hyd/trans fluid. It lifts now but is very slow. Does anyone know if this is the right or wrong fluid?

That fluid is made by Martin Lubricants in Ar.. Pretty sure it is the same fluid as what Tractor Supply sells as Extreme. I came close to buying some because of the lower price but after reading the label it didn't seem to adapt to temperatures as well as the Traveler brand. It does state it is compatable with JD303. Can you notice and difference in the viscosity of it from your original fluid? Did you clean your strainer when you refilled? No answers but some things to ponder. :D

Seems this particular one is straight 20 weight where some are multi weight such as this. Traveller® Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid, 5 gal. - Tractor Supply Co. Can't see that affecting you this time of year in Va.

Your pump should not have blown up just by a hose coming loose. The fluid would just pump out to the ground.

However if you had a QD in the pressure line, and it popped, then I can understand.

You can use QD's on the work ports of a valve, as the valve has a relief valve.

Have you checked the pressure and flow?

The hose that disconnected was a QD on the high pressure side. I haven't checked any pressure as I just got the fluid in it tonight. I'm just hoping that the new fluid isn't to thick. The old stuff was a pink color and the new stuff is about the color of a regular beer. It might be a little thicker...hard to tell.

Pink? That might have been ATF, which is acceptable for these. It is suitable for a broader temperature range than the single-weight tractor fluid you used.

That NAPA fluid should be fine for summer. Summer or winter, it meets Yanmar specs but in winter you might need to actually do the 5 minute warmup that is specified in Yanmar's manuals.

I emailed Hoye Tractor and got the following reply: Transmission/Hydraulic reservoir - sold under many names like -JD303, HyTrans, J10A, J14A, J20A,B,C,D, J27A or a host of other #'s. They will all say "Hydraulic/Transmission" oil.

Well since my oil was specified to be hydraulic/ transmission oil it should be OK. I'm a tractor novice and have no idea how to check the pressure. Any suggestions?

Here's an old post with a photo showing how I installed a T and a gauge. If I were going to make it permanent, I would put it at the other end of the same hose at the input to the loader's control, to see at a glance.

I don't really think pressure is your problem. Volume is. Asking again, did you check or clean your strainer and filter when all this happened? If you drainedt considerable fluid and stirred things up in the sump with new fluid it might have partially stopped them up.

"-JD303, HyTrans, J10A, J14A, J20A,B,C,D, J27A"
These are all John Deere #'s. Any suitable Hy/Tran oil should say "compatible with", or "same as" one of these. Was it?

Might not be the fluid at all, went through this with Hoye when buying a new pump. Seams Yanmar makes 2 different pumps. One pump is the low cap pump for just running a 3 point, the other that fits the same is a high cap for someone with a loader or other high cap uses, same price. Difference with a loader is night and day, high cap pump moves the loader at almost twice the speed. Sure you bought the right pump ?? Having had both on the same tractor I can tell you there is a huge difference in how the loader works.
