My I-match hitch was fairly faded when I bought my tractor new. I'm not sure if it had sat for a long time or what. Over the years I've noticed that my little dealer seems to have an affinity for faded quick hitches. None of his other implements seem to fade as quickly. I keep my tractor inside and most of my implements outside. The fading of the implements has never caught up with the quick hitch. I wonder if the grade/paint process is different on the quick hitches. Anyone else ever noticed what I mean?

I had the same gut reaction to the difference in paint fade. And even the other day in the shed it caught my eye.

You will have to decide for yourself if you are getting the deal you want. My only advice would be don't let the color fade on the quick hitch be the straw that breaks the camels back. I think they are prone to early and excessive fading.

It wasn't just the faded and chipped paint and the rust in weld seams, thats going to happen anyway, this machine was clearly used as the dealers demo, he even said so, and thats not what I ordered, I ordered new and expected new. To make a long story short I said I wouldn't accept delivery on anything less then a machine with less than 2 hrs, no dirt and grime under the hood, stored inside, and all new attachments or he could void the contract and I'd start from new, guess what? A brand new 2305 with less than 1 hr, on it, new mower deck, new quick hitch and 54 blade, new ballast box and 200cx FEL appeared in my driveway THAT AFTERNOON, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I'm still curious where that came from, but, I'm very happy with what I got, but should you really have to fight for it?

10 hours on a "new" machine? 10 hours is more than just putting around the dealer's lot and/or putting in and out of the shop to have the loader, mower and front blade installed. It's been used somewhere by someone - who knows how hard?

I paid $13.7K for my 2305 setup like yours except no blade and a 62C deck (which I recommend over the 54C that you are listing). It was new, a tenth of an hour on the hour meter and everything installed. Still had plastic on the seat. :)

I guess if that is their best price on a demo I'd shop around a bit more - but, maybe that is the best you'll be able to do in your area. Maybe have them throw in the 50 hour service on-site?

I agree with you, Machiner. When I was shopping for my 2305, I went to dealers that sold other brands for quotes. I saw 'new' 2305s that had been sitting for god knows how long outside in the weather - slightly faded seat, etc. I also needed a tiller and BB. They had rusted hunks in an overgrown field, supposably 'new', and were quoting me near list. They actually told me they would 'repaint' the equipment if I puchased it! I thought - this is nuts! So I went to a JD only dealer and got one off the floor with .6 hrs and in brand new condition. I know a lot of people that will say 'So it has a little rust?! and a few more hours, etc...who cares. The point is, if you are paying for new equipment, expect new equipment. Some dealers will try to get away with anything for a sale.

The 2305 I demo'd last week had but 1.4 hours on it when I picked it up, but it was significantly weathered. The steering wheel and most of the plastic bits were faded beyond correction. I asked my dealer if I decided to purchase that model if he could get me a fresher appearing one. He said he could and would. Apparently, many of these tractors sit in the lot in GA before being shipped to dealers. This particular 2305 had apparently been under a GA pine for a while as it was covered in sap and dead pine needles. I realize that a tractor is going to get dirty during its useful life but I personally would like to be the one doing it, rather than getting it in marginal condition from the dealer. I have found that the price does not tend to be significantly reduced on models like this and unless the machine had a fairly significant discount with it I would ask the dealer to substitute one that is less weathered==unless of course any discount from being a Demo unit is considered worth the appearance.
