Yeah, my ordeal turned out okay. Guess it doesn't matter how it turned out. Can't escape it so might as well accept it.

Don't want to take away from eepete's ordeal. I'm looking forward to his reports and progress, especially pictures of the new building when it's up!!! :)

There is one main beam on the right rops holding up half of the mess, and the PHD on the tractor is holding up the other side. I'll let the insurance guy make the call, but it does look like great rescue training for the department. Roy is right- this is a very tricky technical rescue (of a tractor). If what is left fell on someone, they probably wouldn't survive.

Pete,
Just saw your thread. Can't tell you how bad I feel for you. Your comment on the training value took the words right out of my mouth as I was reading. Something you might check into... Last night, on the local news here in Seattle, I saw a report on some houses which were being used by the local FD for training. They were cutting holes in the roof, etc. Anyway, the news report said that the property owners could get a break on their property taxes for letting the FD use the buildings for training before they were demo'd. Just thought I would mention it as it might be worth looking into.

OK, back to reading...

The tractor got hauled off today, leaving me with just a few unhappy parts. Let the repairs begin! I talk to the insurance adjuster tomorrow.

Well at least it is on the road to recovery, good luck tomorrow with the adjuster. Hope you can get your new home for the tractor ready in time for it's return.

That JD emblem between the headlights would live a happy life here on our farm.

I'm taking those parts to the dealer this morning. No point having the insurance pay for something that's not broken. Don't know if the plastic cowling around the headlights comes with the Deere emblem or not, kinda hopping it does because that one could live a happy life here, too!
This reminds we of when the old main frame computers were taken out of service, and everyone wanted the front panel off of them. Similarly, when old power plant generators and ships are decommissioned, everyone wants the builders plate.

When they get the hood off, I plan to take that and cut out a section with the decal on it - one side is still good. Might frame it and hang it on the wall.

Now y'all know why I'm not an artist, just a geek...

Pete,
I was thinking the same thing when I read your last post, I have changed out a couple of Deere hoods in the last few years and these things never have any of the extra trim, stickers or lights.

The dealer took things apart today. It seems all the radiators in the front got bumped, so they all have to be replaced. Good call to not start the tractor until it was looked at :). The hood holder was bent a bit too, but other than the radiators, hood, and hood holding bracket no damage to the engine or any parts of the frame. The top of the cab, the mating plastic bottom part of the cab, and a blower was all the top damage. Finally, the plastic that holds the switches on the right side is gone but all the hydraulic controls and linkage are good. All the parts are on order. Not bad considering they just got it yesterday. It's being kept inside while the parts come in, they expect to start working on it next week.

Current estimate is $6500 in parts, $2100 in labor, so still looking like under $10K to fix it all.

Insurance co. (State Farm) has all the cost to extract the tractor, quotes to clear building away, quote for new building, and tractor repair quote so sometime next week I'll get 5 minutes of consideration on this event and we'll see how they do. I have a $2500 deductible but in the long run that's still a good deal.

On the building demolition, the locals are scavenging the metal roof for shed extensions they want to make. It's amazing how many people wanted the metal. Then, the beams are still good so they are getting those too for their sheds. They will then cut up all the good wood and deliver it to elderly people who heat with wood. So it may turn out that the demolition quote (which was about $4500) will turn into an hour of pushing some wood bits with the FEL. Recycling, country style :D. I am limiting access to people I know, one of the two people involved is an ex firefighter. I'll jump in and give then a hand on the cut-up of wood too.
