New JD4520 cab is destroyed

The dealer took things apart today. It seems all the radiators in the front got bumped, so they all have to be replaced. Good call to not start the tractor until it was looked at :). The hood holder was bent a bit too, but other than the radiators, hood, and hood holding bracket no damage to the engine or any parts of the frame. The top of the cab, the mating plastic bottom part of the cab, and a blower was all the top damage. Finally, the plastic that holds the switches on the right side is gone but all the hydraulic controls and linkage are good. All the parts are on order. Not bad considering they just got it yesterday. It's being kept inside while the parts come in, they expect to start working on it next week.

Current estimate is $6500 in parts, $2100 in labor, so still looking like under $10K to fix it all.

Insurance co. (State Farm) has all the cost to extract the tractor, quotes to clear building away, quote for new building, and tractor repair quote so sometime next week I'll get 5 minutes of consideration on this event and we'll see how they do. I have a $2500 deductible but in the long run that's still a good deal.

On the building demolition, the locals are scavenging the metal roof for shed extensions they want to make. It's amazing how many people wanted the metal. Then, the beams are still good so they are getting those too for their sheds. They will then cut up all the good wood and deliver it to elderly people who heat with wood. So it may turn out that the demolition quote (which was about $4500) will turn into an hour of pushing some wood bits with the FEL. Recycling, country style :D. I am limiting access to people I know, one of the two people involved is an ex firefighter. I'll jump in and give then a hand on the cut-up of wood too.

Pete

For the size of the beam which fell on it, that's not too bad for damage. That would almost be managable if it wasn't covered by insurance. A lot less than what I would have expected with all the plastic on new tractors.

Very good news - all things considered. My first thought when I saw the hood/light combo was "some part of that would have a special location" in the new shop! :)

Maybe right next to a framed 10"x12" picture of the crumpled barn draped over the top of the tractor.

The tractor got hauled off today, leaving me with just a few unhappy parts. Let the repairs begin! I talk to the insurance adjuster tomorrow.

That steup would be on the wall in the new shed as a "conversation piece"

Deere dealer emailed me these pix of the work in progress. They had to re-order some parts due to a serial number break they missed, that's OK. It's nice they are keeping me informed and sending pictures.

No word from State Farm yet on anything, will contact them this week. Mid week is two weeks since the adjuster was here, and a week longer than what they said it would be to get back to me with an update. I'm glad I didn't hold up repairs waiting to hear from them.

As for the conversation piece, we'll see what debris is left. I did have them keep the hood so I can cut the remaining good side with the decal out. I should get the front headlight piece (less headlights) back, don't know if they will re-use the Deere emblem or not. It's just nice that that such thought can even be pondered at this time.

It's awsome that they will E-mail pics and stay in touch like that. I can't see a car dealer doin' that.

Yeah, how many times in threads where people are deciding what to get has it been said how important the dealer is in the big picture.

Of course, it probably doesn't hurt that this is a pretty slow time of year, and this is a pretty nice job dollars wise. I agree the pics are a nice touch and something most dealers probably wouldn't think to do.

So sorry to hear about your tractor. It makes me uneasy to look at the pics and it's not even mine. I've had good and bad run-ins with insurance companies for all sorts of stuff, none tractor related tho (crosses fingers). That is awesome Deere is keeping you that much in the loop and with pics even. The best of luck to you with the entire situation.

Peete, glad it looks like everything will come out okay. This reminds me that I have to get the Aborists our to cut down this one tree that is leaning over my shed with the tractor in it:eek: That tree cold also hit my house, so it is goin' down this year.

It is important to take care of damaged trees! This one had root-rot which wasn't visable until after it came down.
