I have a L2600DT with a LA450 loader with only 63 hours on it, and I'm thinking of trading it in on a new L3130 HST with LA723 loader and R1 tires.
The reason is I like the HST over the gear shift.
I had a HST before the L2600 and once you have a HST it is hard to go back to a gear shift.
I went to the local Kubota dealer today, and he came up with a price of $5,200 with my trade.
My question is he wants $800 more for the R4's, are they worth it?
I never had R4's and was wondering if I need them, I always had R1's.
And is the $5200 a fair price.
Thank you for any input

Not sure I'm qualified to answer your questions since I'm the reverse - I've never had R1's. I did go with the R4's on my L3130 though. I've found them to have excellent traction on my pasture, but my property drains VERY well and I don't have any boggy spots. I also paid the upgrade charge for the R4's, and if I recall it was $800 for me as well. To be perfectly honest - I had NO IDEA if this was the right decision or not since this was my first tractor ever. I probably went with the R4's because I liked the way they looked more than anything else. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If I had it to do over again I would still get the R4's. They work very well - but then again I don't know if the R1's would do as well or not. I do have lots of thorns on my property so I had 10 gallons of slime put in the tires to prevent puntures. I have had no flats and I've pulled some nasty stuff off the tires - so it appears to be working well.

I went from R1 to R4 when I bought my L3010, I think they are the same tire. I was charged $450 for the upgrade. I did not have a trade in and you must look at the entire package.
I use my tractor on the road moving rock as well as just driving around so the R4s are the only way to go for me.

For all around versitility nothing beats an R4.
I would tell them to split the cost on the R4's and have your checkbook in your hand when you say it.

I went with the r4. My decision was based on my tasks. I use my tractor to mow and the r4 tires are easier on my lawn while mowing and to have a little more rugged tire for plowing snow on a paved driveway.

Well I was back to the Kubota dealer today and I think I'm going for the L3130 HST with the LA 723 with the 4 way valve ($40 extra) and R-4's.
The dealer was telling me that the I could upgrade to the Quick attach system for $380 and he said the Quick attach systems are now a universal Skid steer fit and that I could go to the rent all centers and get standard skid steer attachments to fit.
I was wondering if this true.
Has anyone out tried to put standard skid steer attachments on their Kubota?
The dealer wants $330 more for the HD bucket.
Is it worth it ?
Thank you Ed

The "is it worth it" depends on your useage. I have the standard bucket on mine and I do not have the QA. Reason being is that I really have no current use for either. I have no rocks on my property, it doesn't snow in Texas (at least not where I'm at), and horse manure just doesn't weigh a whole lot. So for my use the extra cost was just that - extra cost. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

i have wet property[well not this summer]but in the fall/spring/winter its bad.i bought the r4's and like them.i have stuck my 3830 a couple of times but not because of traction but more due to where i was driving.i get great traction with my r4's and i think they have more floatation.my 3830 like your 3130 would be a good sized tractor and should provide you with plenty of bite.i would even think turf tires with 4wd would work well.the two best things the dealer sold me on were r4's and hst.jmho bws

I think the skid steer quick attach would be worth the extra money. Most attachment manufactures make the skid steer style attachment on their implements. It would be cheaper to add that now than later.

I use this universal adaptor for my sifting bucket, general purpose (GP) bucket, high capacity bucket, front mounted hydraulic auger and ripper bar.

It only takes about 30 seconds to change implements with the quick attach. If you do get the quick attach you will be able to shop around and see if the price you are getting for the HD bucket is good or not.

Ed, I have the L3830. This is what I think or understand the situation to be

1. I have the heavy duty bucket because on my L48, I bent the bucket slightly in the middle. It was not HD, but probably every bit as heavy as the HD on my L723. Difference is it had a very powerful loader for a compact. The HD bucket on the L723 is not likely to bend, its well built.

2. I opted not to get the QA simply because I don't realy expect to use other implemenst on the loader other then the bucket. If you think you will ever need to, it's the only way to go. You can add different buckets, forks, and a whole list of other options.

3. Curious if you know what the 4 way valve does? My understanding is that it allows for float on the bucket dump or float on the loader. An application might be with snow removal equipment.

4. Nice setup! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
