You might want to be careful with that loader. As powerful as it is, you'll quickly lift the backend of the tractor, if you hook into something thats anchored good.

Congratulations on your new rig! I've had my 4610 since April, accumulating about 30 hours, with not the first problem of any kind. All that power makes you feel unstoppable, but just remember to think ahead of the machine and don't take any chances. If you've not already done so, consider getting the rear tires filled with ballast. As you already proved, that loader can lift a lot... if there's not something extra in back to offset the load, you can find yourself in trouble real quick.

Also, if you are going to be doing any serious digging with the loader, consider getting a toothbar for it. Not much you can't handle with the teeth on it.

Needless to say, I think you made a great choice in equipment, and I hope you have many years of enjoyment from it.

(sorry for the compressed posts--IE for the Mac seems to do that. I'm trying mozilla now)

Thanks for your concern. My area is generally flat, but I'm trying hard to form good habits (ROPS, seat belt). I did put it up when I was working in "dangerous" spots, and for the rest of the day (it is still up--I left it outside tonight).

I never had ROPS before, so I feel a little like I did when I first got ABS--nice frill, but I never needed it before (probably wouldn't be around now if I did /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif). I am committed to using it. Pete's suggestion for pins should make it quite a bit easier.

If I could leave it up all the time, there would be no conflict. I've already hinted that I need a new building, but that didn't provoke a positive response, something about "house first".

It certainly is a nice rig. Now for all the needed accessories...

Grandad,

Thanks! I do have the rears loaded and have either had my rotary cutter or finish mower on while working. I'm thinking that I will make a 3pt counterweight so I don't have 6-8 feet sticking out beind the rear.

A toothbar is on my list too. I was already wishing for it today.

Frank_f15,

Well, the boss and I have a good deal--she does the finish mowing (which I don't really like), and I do everything else. It works out OK. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I don't like leaving the loader on when she mows, though, and I'm really pleased with how easily the loader drops off. I was a little concerned about that (how often do things really work as easily as advertised, anyway?). After having it off and on twice now, I can say that it really is easy, and I'll likely drop it before any serious finish mowing.

Congrats on your new tractor. Had mine 1 year, 230 hours, it is one cool machine. If you want to make it more stable, move the rear wheels out to the 4 position (5 is possible) Then you will have a wider stance and still be within the 72 inch mow width. I don't carry any liquid ballast since I got a puncture and paid a 76 dollar service call to have it pumped out and repaired. What a mess that was. Ballast does make a significant difference in the handling of the tractor, but try something other than Calcium Chloride. The wheels will be easier to reposition BEFORE filling with liquid.

I know you are going to love your new tractor. I have had mine a year this month, 290 hours. I have 3 tractors, but seldom crank the other 2 since getting this one.
I did not want to put ballast in tires because I use it to mow lawn. I used my heavy duty box blade for counter balance until I built one that is easier to put on & much smaller. Will attach picture. Is just 55 gal drum. 7/8 rod through center attached to top line hitch point & a tomato wire cage for reinforcement. Recessed at top link area to miss top link. I got it ready & left it at the local concrete plant, they filled it up with left over concrete. I picked it up, ready to go.
If interested & you would like, can post picture of inside before concrete poured.

Neal,

I was thinking of doing that very thing. I'll probably weld up a simple 3pt frame inside a container and do as you did.

It will be nice to do that instead of having 6+ feet of an implement sticking out the back...

I really didn't realize how nice it was going to be until I started using it. Also I purchased as set of car dolly's on the cheap at Harbor freight, moved the casters out a little & use it to set the 1000 lb barrel of concrete on when I take if off. Just unhook & roll it over out of the way. Sure makes hooking up a lot easier also.
I use a extended handle hay hook, hook it into a hole in one corner of the car dolly to pull it across the barn floor.
Got the caster idea off tbn.
Thanks Guys,
